Iconic drummer, singer, songwriter and producer, Phil Collins had to step away from the stage due to health problems
One of the biggest names in pop rock, known for hits like “In the Air Tonight,” “You’ll Be In My Heart,” “Another Day in Paradise” and “Against All Odds,” Phil Collins gave a rare interview to talk about his health.
The former member of Genesis and battery icon spoke to the Drum in 2022, but the conversation only aired recently, as part of the documentary Phil Collins: Drummer First. In the interview, he revealed how he was adapting to no longer being able to play the drums.
“If I can’t do what I did as well as I did, I’d rather relax and do nothing,” he said. “If I wake up one day and can hold a pair of drumsticks, I’ll give it a try. But I feel like I’ve used up my air miles. It’s still sinking in a little bit… I’ve spent my whole life playing drums. Suddenly not being able to do that It’s a shock.”
In another part of the documentary, Nickson of the artist, who took over his father’s duties in the recent shows of the Genesisspoke more about the well-being of Phil Collins. According to him, the artist needed “major neck surgery, resulting from all those years of playing the drums and bad posture.”
Finally, Nick explained how Collins suffered foot dangling, a condition in which “one of his feet has no feeling,” which means he now needs to use a cane.
