Vocalist declared that he had a “near-death” experience that led to the cancellation of three of the band’s shows in Europe
Eddie Vedder he turns 60 this Monday (23) as one of the greatest vocalists in the history of rock. The frontman of Pearl Jamone of the most popular groups to emerge in the 1990s, also developed a solo career and became involved with Temple of the Dogproject in honor of the deceased Andrew Wood (Mother Love Bone, Malfunkshun).
However, there was a possibility that we would not be celebrating this date. Months ago, the singer said he had a “near-death” experience, which led to the cancellation of three of the group’s shows on the tour promoting the album. Dark Matter (2024).

The presentations would take place in London (June 29) and Berlin (July 2 and 3). Officially, the band only communicated “health issues” for the decision taken, without further details.
Upon returning to the stage, however, Vedder himself tried to offer information. During a show in Barcelona, on June 6th, he said in conversation with the public that the so-called “health issues” were suffered by him himself: a pain in the chest that “it almost felt like a near-death experience”in reference to the set of visions and sensations often associated with a supposed imminent death.
According to the transcription of ABC (via Igor Miranda website), he said:
“It almost felt like a near-death experience. It was very uncomfortable and scary. It felt like I might not be able to breathe, I might not be able to make it through the night, I might have to go to the hospital.”
Then, Eddie expanded his speech to highlight that not only him, but “some of us” suffered from the problem. In this way, the singer hinted that other members of Pearl Jam had health issues in recent days.
The artist continued:
“You just realize how precious this life is, how lucky we are to live on a planet where we could play for incredible people like the people here tonight. It was an intense experience. I won’t forget this anytime soon and we won’t forget this night anytime soon.”

Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam in 2025
Fortunately, it was nothing more than a scare. Eddie Vedder is doing well and returns to the road with Pearl Jam in the first half of 2025. Between April and May, the band is on a 10-date tour across the United States.
There are no other confirmed commitments other than this tour. In 2024, in addition to having released the aforementioned album Dark Matterthe group performed 37 shows on continents such as North America, Oceania and Europe. Vedder and company have not been to Brazil since 2018.
