As 2024 draws to a close, Paul McCartney set his new year’s promise: to complete his next album.
The revelation took place in a brief question and answer session held with fans and published on the singer’s official website.
The icon of Beatles explained that, although he was busy with the tour Got Back — with visits to Brazil —, he is eager to continue producing new songs.
I’ve been working on a lot of music and had to put that aside because of the tour. So I hope to get back to that and finish a lot of these songs. My New Year’s resolution is to finish a new album. How about that?”, replied the singer.
The last solo album released by the musician, titled McCartney IIIwas made available to the public in 2020. This project can be considered a continuation of the albums McCartney 1970 and McCartney II 1980, although it appeared after the album Egypt Stationwhich was released in 2018.
In 2021, the artist also presented the world with the remix album titled McCartney III Imaginedwhich featured the collaboration of renowned artists such as Beck, St Vincent, Phoebe Bridgers, Damon Albarn, Khruangbin, Dominic Fike, Josh Homme and Anderson .Paak.
Although he hasn’t released new solo music recently, this year was also marked by the debut of the group’s latest song. Beatles, “Now and Then”.
The track is based on a piano recording made by John Lennon in 1977 and that Yoko Ono handed it over to the band’s surviving members in 1994. At that time, George Harrison had recorded some guitar parts with the intention of including them in the series of compilations The Beatles Anthologybut due to the poor quality of the original recording, the project was abandoned.
As the years passed, McCartney managed to restore the recording using artificial intelligence technologies. Together with Ringo Starrhe recorded new beats and vocals that were mixed with the demo of Lennon and the old guitar parts of Harrison.
“Now and Then” was nominated for several Grammy awards, including Record of the Year.
