Guilherme Arantes underwent emergency heart surgery on Thursday (26/12) and will need complete rest for the next ten days. The 71-year-old singer underwent a catheterization with angioplasty last Thursday (12/26) to unblock his blood vessels, according to an official statement released by his team on Instagram.
On medical advice, he canceled presentations planned for the new year, including a show in Santos, on the coast of São Paulo, on Sunday (31/12), and participation in an event on the ship Roupa Nova, scheduled for the 3rd of January.

“We inform you that, on December 26, the singer and composer Guilherme Arantes underwent an unscheduled catheterization with angioplasty, which was carried out successfully,” the artist’s team said in an official note published on social media.
The message also underlines the need for rest: “On medical recommendation, Guilherme Arantes will have to respect absolute rest for the next ten days. Therefore, unfortunately, he will not be able to participate in the New Year’s Eve show in Santos, scheduled for December 31, 2024, nor from the ship Roupa Nova, on January 3, 2025. We thank you for the understanding and support of all fans, partners and friends at this time.”

Catheterization with angioplasty, according to the Hospital do Coração de Porto Alegre, combines the diagnosis of possible artery blockages through cardiac catheterization with the therapeutic intervention of angioplasty, which unblocks the blood vessels.
