The 7 best metal albums of 2024 for Charles Gavin, including the national band

The former Titãs drummer and music program presenter mentioned works of classic groups in the segment and younger names

After publishing lists indicating international rock and pop albums released in 2024, Carlo Gavin decided: it was time for heavy sounds. The former drummerTitans and a series of music programs have named their 7 favorite heavy metal albums of the year – and there is a domestic band among the foreign names.

In the survey, renowned bands such as Judas Priest and Saxon share space with more current attractions, such as Whores AND Hunters. Representing Brazil is At nightwith a live album available in audio and video: Cosmic Live Tourwhich collects shows performed in the Russian cities of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Ekaterinburg, as well as in Curitiba, San Paolo and Nova Friburgo, in our country.

See, below, Gavin’s heavy metal-oriented recommendations.

01)JUDAS PRIEST / Invincible Shield: Since the ’70s, Judas Priest have remained royalty on the global metal scene. And so he continues with Invincible Shield, his nineteenth studio album. However, the highlight here is the performance of Scott Travis, one of the genre’s most notable drummers. A firecracker.

02)SAXON / Hell, fire and damnation: Maximum institution of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal that emerged at the end of the 70s (who didn’t appreciate the classic Wheels Of Steel, from 1980?), Saxon celebrates its 48 years of existence with its 24th album. Check.

03)BODY COUNTING / Ruthless: The project led by rapper Ice-T returns with appearances from Max Cavalera and Howard Jones. Ice-T is still on form: listen to his new recording of Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb.”

04)IN HIGH FIRE / The storm arrives: Representatives of sludge metal, a style that uses slow tempos, lower-tuned guitars and dystopian lyrics (Black Sabbath’s Master of Reality and Vol 4 albums are the main inspiration), High On Fire hit the nail on the head in their ninth album, cited by the Yankee press as the best metal album of 2024.

05)HUNTERS / Dry land: The Chicago quintet combines doom, sludge and post-metal with great coherence and originality in their third album. Note the “wall of sound” of guitarists Chris Kang and Gavin Cushman III.

06)WHORES / War: Remember Casco? The Atlanta trio has something to do with it… And according to the Yankee press, Whores produces enough “headbanging” to keep a legion of chiropractors working 24 hours a day, non-stop. Highly recommended.

07)NIGHT / Cosmic Live Tour: Noturnall was founded by former members of Shaman in 2013. Cosmic Live Tour, a quadruple album, accompanied by respective videos of shows recorded in Brazil and abroad, offers an excellent and accurate sampling of the power of one of the greatest metal bands , the Tupiniquim.”

11) The smile/The wall of eyes: Avangarde pop of the supergroup formed by Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood (creative axis of Radiohead) with drummer Tom Skinner (Sons of Kemet).

12) MGMT / Loss of life: Multi-instrumentalist duo Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasse return with lighthearted lyrics, clever beats and synths.”
