Country duo Humberto and Ronaldo tell the story of their stage name in an interview with Contigo!
The duo Humberto and Ronaldo gathers more than 5 million monthly listeners on Spotify and countless hits throughout Brazil. However, there’s one fact about the duo’s stage name that only fans will know. Ronaldo is actually Marcelo Alves.
In an interview with With you! musicians share details about using a stage name and reveal how they met and formed one of Brazil’s most prestigious country duos. “[O nome] It does not matter”comments.
“I was already singing with a college friend named Ronaldo. At the time we met Marcelo and he started playing guitar for us from the old lineup. God was showing other ways, Ronaldo no longer wanted to devote himself to music, and I invited Marcelo to become Ronaldo”says Humberto.
The decision not to change the duo’s name is due to the fact that the artistic name was already strong in Goiânia when everything happened. A drastic change could reflect negatively on engagement and recognition in the music industry.
“We were university students, we had already done many shows, so the names Humberto and Ronaldo were already known, they already had relevance. [Marcelo] I didn’t care”says Humberto. “I said: ‘No, let’s go!’. I became Ronaldo.”Ronaldo jokes, laughing.
