In an interview, Slash gave details about the origin of his first top hat used in concerts.
slashguitarist of Armas e Rosas 56 years old, he was not only marked by his incredible ability to play the guitar, but also by the iconic top hats he has been wearing for 37 years of his career.
Many fans question the origin of the guitarist’s look, in February, slash told in an interview for the podcast Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend that his first top hat was stolen during a tour of the Armas e Rosas in 1985 (via whiplash).
I stole it from a place called Retail Slut in Los Angeles(…) I remember that because there were two stores, Leathers And Treasures and Retail Slut. Taime Downe, lead singer of the band Faster Pussycat, used to work at Retail Slut. I went in there and I had no money, I always used to wear some kind of hat because it completes any look you have. So I walked in there and I just saw the top hat and I thought, ‘Fuck, I’m leaving [daqui] with that top hat. And so I did,” she said.
According to the website radiox, andle then chose to customize it with a “shell” belt that he also stole from a store next door. The explanation for slash persisting in the accessory for so many years, it could be shyness. In an interview for CBS Newsthe guitarist explained:
“You can pull your top hat and hair down under your face and hide behind it. I’ve always been a little nervous in front of crowds and that makes me feel a lot more comfortable.”
Style
slash made an appearance on the American show Sunday Brunch in February, her look during the interview was the subject of social media. The guitarist was wearing sunglasses, a gray beard and surprised the audience.
“The only person allowed to wear sunglasses on a Zoom call is Slash,” said one viewer.
Others said, “These glasses are annoying, I can see the computer screen in them”
However, little do the critics know that everything there comprises the message of a rock star. In 2020 the Vogue named the guitarist as the “best dressed in the world” and recalled the best looks – mostly during concerts and red carpets – of the musician in celebration of his 55th birthday.
Slash, whose real name is Saul Hudson, is best remembered for wearing the following clothes: band t-shirts, leather pants, motorcycle jackets, various jewelry and the iconic top hat.
