On the way to the hospital, the singer described the journey as agonizing. “My mother was in the car with me and I was holding my neck, trying not to show how intense the pain was. Every pothole on the road felt like hell on Earth.”
At the hospital, x-rays revealed that he had suffered a fracture called “executioner’s break”common in cases of hanging. “The doctor told me: ‘It could have been much worse. You’ll be out for seven months. Say goodbye to your tour.'”
The singer admitted that the uncertainty about the future was devastating. “I was at the beginning of my career. I thought, ‘Have I reached my limit? I didn’t know what my life would be like from then on.’ Despite the difficult prognosis, Derulo created a rigorous routine to get through the recovery period, dividing his time between treadmill exercises and studio recording.
In February 2024 he released his fifth studio album, Naked king. At the end of the year, in collaboration with Jawsh 685, he released the song “Make Me Happy”.
