Mikkey Dee spent the end of 2024 hospitalized for sepsis; the presentations in Brazil were not commented on, but remain on the agenda

THE Scorpions has postponed his season of shows as a resident at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, Las Vegas, USA. The reason is the drummer’s recent hospitalization Mikekey Deewho suffered sepsis due to an untreated ankle injury.

Presentations will take place between the end of February and the beginning of March. They are now moved to August 14, 16, 19, 21 and 23. THE Buckcherry continues as the opening attraction. The health and well-being of our brother are of the utmost importance. I wish Mikkey a full and speedy recovery and look forward to playing with you all again soon!”

Nothing has been said about it, but the shows in Latin America keep their original dates. In April, Scorpions begin a tour of the region, playing Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia and Ecuador. In our country, the group performs in Brasilia (16/04, with Judas Priest, Europe AND Kissing Clan), San Paolo (19/04, at the festival Rock Monsters) and Rio de Janeiro (21/04, solo date at Qualistage).

Mikekey Dee’s health

Recently the world of heavy music almost lost one of its greatest drummers. Mikkey Dee, member of Scorpions since 2016 and known for his decades-long involvement with the Driving headhe spent three weeks in hospital due to a “very serious blood infection”, as he himself defined it.

The news was shared by Dee in a statement on social media (via Igor Miranda’s website). The drummer, 61, said he was unable to respond to messages wishing him a Merry Christmas and New Year due to his hospitalization.

“I was admitted to hospital with a very serious blood infection (sepsis). I was hospitalized for three weeks, but now I’m at home fighting this nasty bacteria. Luckily, I received fantastic care at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, my hometown. So, thank you very much to all the doctors and nurses who gave me the best care. After several operations, I am now back home and the tests are all going in the right direction and I still have a lot of recovery ahead of me .”

Also in the text, Mikkey said he was recovering to return to the stage. At the time, the Las Vegas shows had not yet been postponed.

“We have an amazing 2025 ahead of us, celebrating 60 years of Scorpions and lots of exciting shows around the world. So I can’t wait to see you all on the road and rocking out! Wishing you all an amazing 2025.” with good health and lots of Rock n’Roll!”

What happened to the Scorpions drummer

In his first interview after the accident, Mikkey Dee provided more details about his hospitalization. To the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet (go Chatty), said the situation began after a sprained foot. Even with a swollen ankle, the drummer preferred to self-medicate with paracetamol and anti-inflammatories and continue to perform with a Christmas musical project.

“My ankle swelled like hell, then it took on a strange shape and look, it looked like a very cooked ham. I got really sick, so I had to go by ambulance to Sahlgrenska hospital, and there they discovered a lot of changes, so they gave me top priority. I had to go to the operating room immediately, the first of three. They removed what was dead, infected and seriously compromised.”

Ultimately, Dee summed up the severity of his case in one sentence:

“If it had taken one more day, I would have played the drums Lemmy [Kilmister, líder do Motörhead falecido em 2015] in heaven, I can say that.”

In addition to Scorpions and Motörhead (a group of which he was a member from 1992 to 2015), Mikkey has played with King Diamond AND Don Dokken. However, he recorded a good part of the album The rabbit is not easy (2003), from HIas a studio musician.
