Ex-Van Halen vocalist even had a tour announced in the country, canceled due to the pandemic, and said he wanted to bring a new show to South America

Sammy Hagar can retire from touring without having come to one country: Brazil. The 77-year-old vocalist admitted to feeling the effects of age and stated that he no longer intends to travel long distances to perform.

In an interview with Miami Herald (via Igor Miranda website), the former member of Van Halen and Montrose commented on his new initiative to transform the tour “The Best of All Worlds” in a season of shows in Las Vegas. On April 30th and May 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 9th, 10th, 14th, 16th, 17th, the musician and his backing band will perform at the same venue, Dolby Live at Park MGM.

According to him, this is an attempt to maintain his career without having to travel a lot — like in 2024, when he performed more than 35 shows in North America, in addition to three commitments in Japan. The singer said:

“I don’t think I want to tour anymore. I hate saying this because I don’t want to piss off my fans. I keep telling my manager: ‘don’t go on tours, let me do this residency’. If I like it, I’ll make another one. And if this one is successful, I’ll do one more, and I can squeeze a few more years out of my career.”

According to Hagar, traveling makes the entire experience tiring. Without this component, the artist is free to dedicate himself to performances.

“With this, I don’t have to travel, I don’t have to empty suitcases and then pack them, and go to the plane every day. At my age, it hurts my shoulders. And I have to introduce myself. I’m a performer, after all.”

Sammy Hagar and Brazil

To this day, Sammy Hagar has never come to Brazil to perform. During their period in Van Halen, the band never came to South America — legend has it that the experience in 1983, still with David Lee Roth in terms of vocals, it would have been less than positive due to the supposed unpreparedness of the local events market. His other projects also didn’t come through here.

The idea was that, in March 2020, the American would debut on national stages with four performances alongside the project The Circle. However, the shows scheduled for Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, São Paulo and Ribeirão Preto were canceled due to the covid-19 pandemic.

Already with the show “The Best of All Worlds”the artist even said in an interview from 2024 to Eddie Trunk (via Igor Miranda website) who would like to visit other continents. Europe, Oceania and South America were mentioned. Apparently, that won’t happen.

“I’m telling you, let’s get on with it. We have to take it to South America, we have to take it to Europe, we have to go to Australia.”

The Best of All Worlds in 2025

The fact is that the “The Best of All Worlds” was transformed into a season of shows in Las Vegas, an increasingly common movement in the high-level music industry — to the point where giant names like Eagles, Mariah Carey, Scorpions, U2, Maroon 5 and Rod Stewart have recently joined the format. About the initiative, Sammy Hagar declared:

“I’m really looking forward to this residency and being able to stay in one place so we can get the sound and production completely dialed in. This also allows the band to experiment with the setlist every night — which is why it will be exclusive to Las Vegas — rather than traveling all day on tour, not having time to rehearse and make changes. I plan to delve deeper into the catalog of Van Halen and in my solo career, Montrose and Chickenfoot also. Fans will be in for a lot of surprises.”

Hagar currently plays alongside his former Van Halen bandmate, michael anthony (bass, backing vocals), in addition to Joe Satriani (guitar), Kenny Aronoff (battery) and Rai Thistlethwayte (keyboards). Aronoff fills the vacancy left by Jason Bonham, who participated in most of the 2024 performances and had worked with the vocalist for a decade.
