The Beat, Adrian Belew’s supergroup, celebrate King Crimson with a show in Brazil

The presentation with the musician together with Steve Vai (guitar), Tony Levin (bass) and Danny Carey (drums, Tool) will take place in Sao Paulo on May 9

Two former members of the Crimson King, Adrian Belew (guitar/vocals) e Tony Levin (bass), supported by the guitarist Steve Vai and the drummer of Tool, Danny Careyto form a supergroup. Beat reinterprets three albums from the original ’80s group: Discipline (1981), Hit (1982) e Three of a perfect couple (1984).

With production from Mercury Concertsthe quartet arrives in Brazil for a single show on May 9, 2025 (Friday), at Espaço Unimed, in Sao Paulo. Ticket sales will begin this Tuesday (21st), at 10am, via the Eventim website (paid) and at the box office of the event venue (no cost).

With a run of 60 shows already held abroad, Beat has received acclaim from Roberto Fripp. The guitarist and leader of the now closed King Crimson states on social media that it is a project “that I fully support and encourage”.

In a note, Adrian Belew states:

“From 1981 to 1984, King Crimson created music all their own. Timeless. Beautiful. Complex. Fierce. For the fans who experienced it then, and for those who never got to witness it, our goal is bring it back to life. Monumental task, but let’s move on! There are not enough exclamation points to express my enthusiasm!”

Steve Vai, in turn, adds:

“Being part of this group is an extraordinary privilege and an opportunity to perform some of the most beloved, timeless and monumental songs of the 80s (and beyond) with truly inspired musicians. This music resonates deeply with me. Adrian, Tony and Danny are unique musicians with a preternatural vision for presenting rich musical complexities in a very accessible way and I look forward to probing the musical minds of others in real time on stage.

Robert Fripp is one of our historical geniuses. His highly specific and exceptionally brilliant guitar technique is studied and revered. His contribution to the quality of my musical life and that of so many others is supreme. I can assure KC fans that I will do my best to respect this great song with the care and intensity it deserves.”

Danny Carey says:

“I’m so excited to share the stage with three of my favorite musicians on the planet. Tony, Steve and Adrian have always been a source of inspiration to me since the beginning of my career, and now I get to share a little bit about my journey musically with them is a dream come true. I think I can speak for all of us when I say that I hope all of our fans are as excited as we are for this tour.”

Finally, Tony Levin concludes:

“Revisiting some of my favorite songs is a treat in itself, but in the company of this stellar lineup, I’m hoping to get a musical kick in the butt! This is going to be one hell of a tour.”

About King Crimson

Founded in 1968, in London, by Roberto Fripp, Michael Giles, Greg Lake, Ian McDonald AND Peter SinfieldTHE Crimson King have established themselves as one of the most important bands in the history of progressive rock. The debut album, At the Court of the Crimson King (1969), remains his most commercially successful work, with a powerful mix of jazz, classical and experimental music.

Over the next few years, King Crimson underwent several changes in its lineup. In 1972 Robert Fripp changed the group’s approach and created increasingly complex compositions, until the group disbanded in 1974. In the 1980s he returned with Fripp, Bill Bruford, Adrian Belew AND Tony Levi. Under the influence of African music, post-punk and New York minimalism, they launch themselves Discipline (1981), Hit (1982) e Three of a perfect couple (1984). In the mid-90s, a reunion with a new lineup took place, and in 1995 they released the album Thrak as well as several recordings of his shows.

In 2000, King Crimson became available The construction of light and in 2003 The power to believe. In 2008 the musicians reunited to celebrate the band’s 40th anniversary. With Robert Fripp now considered retired, King Crimson returns in 2013 with a front three-drum line and new second guitarist and vocalist Jakko Jakszyk. Between 2014 and 2021, the new lineup performed several shows around the world – including a visit to Brazil – and released several live albums before calling it quits for good.
