Written by Luiz Felipe Carneiro, Rock in Rio: a story is a new book by publisher Globo that will be released on July 25
Authored by journalist Luiz Felipe Carneiro, Rock in Rio: the story won a new edition by Globo Livros. The work – which had its first version published in 2011 – now has more details from all eight Brazilian editions of the festival that takes place in Rio de Janeiro.
Rock in Rio it’s one of the biggest music festivals in the world, but businesspeople and professionals in this area didn’t have much expectation at the time the idea came about. Himself Roberto Medinathe publicist responsible for the event, said that it took more than 400 meetings during 70 days without New York to bring international artists to shows in Brazil.
So far, 20 editions have been held – eight in Rio de Janeiro, eight in Lisbon, three in Spain and one in the USA. Since the first edition, in 1985, several artists have visited Cidade do Rock, such as Ozzy Osbourne, AC/DC, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beynoncé, Foo Fighters and queen.
And of course names like these yield incredible stories. According to a press release, “in a great time travel, Luiz Felipe Carneiro opens the backstage doors of the largest music and entertainment festival in the world and reveals many production secrets from more than 30 years of history.”
In addition to the stories, the book has 32 pages of photos to illustrate great moments of the festival, which this year receives names such as Demi Lovato, Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa, Guns N’ Roses, Måneskin and more.
The festival takes place over two consecutive weekends. This year’s edition is scheduled for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th of September in the City of Rock at the Olympic Park (or Parque dos Atletas, used as a leisure area and space for major events), located on the edge of Barra da Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro.
