Iuri Rio Branco talks about trends and reveals the plans for 2025

Born in Brasilia, the manufacturer became one of the major references of the area in Brazil

Iuri Rio Branco It is one of the most talked about names of Brazilian music in recent years. The musician, producer, composer and musical director of Brasilia is involved in important projects and has collaborated on projects such as the debut album of Navy Sena, First (2021), Electrocardiogram (2017), from Flora Matos and, more recently, Anacardifrom Liniker AND Acronicfrom Jean TassyBoth released in 2024.

For him, make himself known as the producer is important for the whole class, especially because people are “first interested in knowing what music production is”, which is a question that receives quite often. Despite the awareness that the idea of the manufacturer’s role has become more popular with the presence of beatmaker in rhythms such as rap.

“The fact that we are becoming more and more known is due to the importance of musical production in the career of the artists”, reflects Yuriwho is keen to underline the importance of the other professionalism who collaborate with him, as musicians and technicians. “We move an entire market.”

Family talent

His interest in music dates back to childhood. His uncles were amateur musicians and their home had instruments like battery and guitar. He does not remember exactly what time was, but he fell in love with the battery from an early age, encouraged by his uncle. “When I was eight or nine, I already read my scores, teaching my biggest cousins as I did.”

At 12 he starts studying music and 14 teaching battery. His first studio recording took place around 13 years. At that time Iuri had a rock group. His passion for other types of music came later, when he was also interested in reggae and musical production.

Iuri graduated in advertising because he understood that he could unite this passion with music, and so it was. He worked by creating soundtracks for commercials and, in parallel, he produced artists from Brasilia and even Capo Verde.

Suddenly, when I saw it, years had passed, I had already done a lot of records and I had moved to San Paolo. Nowadays I do not make almost more advertising, only when someone comes to look for a specific song that he resembles me.

Fan and idol

Yuri has references to names such as Quincy Jones – Since childhood there was something in the music of Michael Jackson who enchanted the manufacturer. “Here in Brazil the [Daniel] Ganjaman, Apollo 9These guys who have been following since I was a child, “says the artist, who is also a fan of names like Tom Capone, Carlos Eduardo Miranda, J dilla AND Lee “Scratch” Perry.

Over the years of his career and his involvement in highly successful projects, the producer has also become a reference for music fans. When asked if you see in the role of an idol, he says he has managed to see himself in such a position “for a few years now”.

“Since I started Flora Matos node Electrocardiogram Many have already chased me, “he recalls.” When you see the younger boys say ‘you are a legend’, I am not a legend, “he says laughing.

The new generation of rap made up of names such as Duchess, Ryu, the runner, DUDU MC are some of the names with which Yuri He worked and, for him, it was the sign that he was becoming a reference, when he started to be stopped on the street and approached the parades with photos. “I’m like ‘fuck, what a crazy’!”

Trap, the sound of the moment

Trap is certainly one of the most popular genres in recent years. Yuri He heard of the rhythm for the first time around 2013 and believes that his popularity is due, among other factors, at the time he occurred. “Humanity always moves at different pace, right? It happened everything, as happened with the Boombap in the 2000s.”

But he realizes that the rhythm broke the bubble and mixed with other genres, such as country music, for example. In his opinion, the trap wave should last for a while, but it will not be sovereign. “It will be another success that we will use, it will not remain as big as it is forever. I could be wrong, but I think that another wave is coming.”

The manufacturer understands that the Boombap is a trend that is returning to grow, in addition to reggae. “It is in fact, in the sample, something from Jamaica has it. It always has it,” he reflects. “Every time the reggae appears, it arrives and dominates.”

The new wave of Brazilian pop is also a topic of interest Yuriwhich actively participates in the movement with its productions. “Now it is very evident that there is a bit of trap in pop, there is the dancehall, the house. And in this we end up participating a lot. I think it’s really nice because it is a way to contribute.”

Yuri He understands that the genuinely national pop strengthens the identity of the country. “With the Internet we can reach more people without having to go through intermediaries”, explains the producer who sees in this a positive point for national music.

Acronic

One of the greatest partners of Iuri is the singer Jean Tassyalso of Brasilia. The two met online and published their first project in 2018, the EP Yesterday (2018). They worked together for consecutive years and in 2024 they released AcronicThe singer’s second album.

“What helps us is that we stop being very close to music,” reflects on the partnership. “We always have something to bring from other genres that we consume.” As in the case of the album, where DE DUSE EFFECTS MUST WITH BRASILIAN FEATURES were sought.

Future projects

Always surrounded by projects, Yuri He works on his next album Don lOne of the greatest names in the rap of the Brazilian scene. “I wrote a song for the new album by Rael and three for the disc Rachele Reis. These are the things I can tell you “, laughs.

In addition to these projects, the producer is also working on his album, which should be ready in the first half of this year. “I still can’t say who there will be, but there should be at least 12 artists in 10 songs,” says the artist.
