This Saturday, January 25th, we celebrate National Bossa Nova Day. The date was chosen in honor of Tom Jobimborn January 25, 1927.
Celebrating the musical genre as well as the artist, the Rio Bossa Nossa is back and promises to unleash the sands of Ipanema on January 24, 25 and 26, marking Rio’s summer with lots of music, sport, sustainability, accessibility and social action.
The event brings with it all the lightness and poetry that characterized the musical movement born more than 70 years ago. Inspired by the sun, sky and sea of The Girl from Ipanema, the Rio Bossa Nossa pays homage to the style that revolutionized Brazilian music, mixing simplicity and sophistication.
Presented by Helo Pinheiro and artistically curated by Pretinho da Serrinha — which will also carry out a social action with Percussion Workshops for children from different communities — the party brings together big names in music and various outdoor activities, all in the iconic setting of the Wonderful City.
Among the night shows there are performances of Daniel Jobim AND Your Jorge with the special participation of Maria Luiza Jobim, Roberto Menescal, DJ Marcelinho from Lua, In a major key, Hamilton from Holland AND Petrobras Symphony OrchestraFurthermore Mario Adnet with the concert “Tom and Villa Sinfonica”.
The festival also offers a daytime program full of activities such as volleyball, beach tennis, yoga, footvolley, gymnastics and others, ideal for those who want to enjoy the summer in a healthy and fun way. With an inclusive and democratic format, the Rio Bossa Nossa It is designed for all ages and creates a recreational space for body, mind and soul.
Spirit of Bossa Nova
“We are bringing the spirit of Bossa Nova back to the beach where it all began, recapturing the essence of Rio and offering a festival that combines music, sport and wellness,” he says Emerson Martinscreator and manager of the event.
The commitment to sustainability is another strong point of the party, which adopts practices such as efficient waste management, carbon offsetting, the distribution of free drinking water and the use of reusable cups.
Accessibility is also a priority: the festival structure will be equipped with access ramps, lifting platforms to ensure everyone has the opportunity to attend the shows and adequate bathrooms. Furthermore, there will be Libra translation during the presentations, underlining that the festival will be a truly inclusive experience.
With a light and engaging atmosphere, the Rio Bossa Nossa celebrates the best of Rio culture, blending Bossa Nova’s iconic past with the freshness of summer and the vibrant energy of Rio de Janeiro.
