Shark Week returns to Discovery with the list of new 2022 specials, and that means the return of some fan favorite series such as air jaws Yes great white serial killer. This year’s edition of great white serial killer is called Fatal Christmasand will tell the story of a surfer who died off the coast of California on Christmas Eve 2021. Executive producer Jeff Kurr spoke to Gossipify and shared what to expect as the special solves a tragic mystery.
The Great White Serial Killer: Fatal Christmas You’ll see investigators of a great white shark attack use forensic evidence and eyewitness reports to try to connect the dots on what happened and answer the question of which shark killed the surfer. Viewers will have to tune in to see the ride, but executive producer Jeff Kurr talked about his work on the franchise and how investigators solved the case, saying:
I’ve been working on a series called Great White Serial Killer since 2013 and they have been hugely popular episodes because we’re really looking at some of the great white shark behaviors when paired with attacks on humans. What we cover in Great White Serial Killer: Fatal Christmas is a man who was killed by a great white shark off Morro Bay on Christmas Eve last year. In fact, we were able to determine the exact size of the shark involved, and we eventually found the exact shark. We know your name. We know he was there. And all of this is due to the new technology, satellite technology.
Shark Week went well and grew since its inception in 1988 But using satellite technology to solve the killer shark mystery is something that probably wouldn’t have been possible just a few years ago. Fatal Christmas will provide some answers on what happened on Christmas Eve 2021, but this was not the only focus of this survey. Jeff Kurr continued:
We ultimately looked into this attack, but we also want to prevent future attacks by letting people know when there are sharks in their area and when they should avoid the water and what they should do to try and avoid an attack. But [it’s a] very moving and moving story of this guy Thomas Butterfield being killed by a great white shark and you really know his story and it’s amazing to think we can identify the exact shark that killed him. This has never been done before. So just another great show we’ve been able to put together this year.
Jeff Kurr certainly has the experience of Shark Week to attest that the shows are particularly amazing, having been part of Discovery’s Shark Week lineup for decades. He also has no less than four specials airing this year.
