Nirvana vocalist and guitarist even liked the sound, but was bothered by the compositions of these groups: “I really annoyed me”

Kurt Cobain It has already been described even by Dave Grohlyour colleague of Nirvanaas “feminist”. The deceased singer and guitarist at the age of 27 in 1994 faithfully followed the punk primer, a genre that sought to sound less hedonistic and, usually, did not bet on letters with objectification of women compared to groups of other rock subgenres.

Early on, the formation of his musical taste indicated this path. Fan of artists and bands like Stooges, Black Flag, The Clash And several others, he even enjoyed two classic rock groups that, in his words, had “macho” compositions.

They are LED ZEPPELIN and Aerosmith. In an interview of 1992 to Rolling Stone USACobain stated that he naturally moved away from both groups because he was bothered by the themes addressed. He said:

“Although I have already heard Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin and enjoyed some melodies they created, I took many years to realize that much of that had to do with machismo. The way they wrote about their own penis and about having sex. ”

However, it took a while until Kurt understood the situation. Having access to punk rock helped a lot in this process.

“I was starting to understand what really annoyed me so much in what in the last two years of high school. So I was exposed to punk rock and everything fitted, like a puzzle. Punk expressed the way I felt, social and politically. Just everything. It was the anger I felt, the alienation. ”

Kurt Cobain, leader of Nirvana, in 1991

In another interview with Rolling Stone USApublished in 1994, Cobain cites albums from Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith among his favorites. The mentions were made in the context that he preferred to release a great album with Nirvana than holding songs to make several of his partially interesting records.

“Massaging my own ego, I can say that we are better than many of the bands out there. We found that if you have two commercial and sticky enough songs on your album, the rest can be a lot of nonsense. If I were smart, I would have kept a good part of SnowRMIND (1991) songs and spread on different albums for the next fifteen years. But I can’t do that. All the records I liked in life had a great song after another: Rock (Aerosmith), LED ZEPPELIN II (LED ZEPPELIN), NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS (Sex pistols), Back in Black (AC/DC). ”

Kurt Cobain and Hip Hop

THE CTV (via Alternative Nation), in 1991, Kurt Cobain revealed that he had the same kind of problem with hip hop. Although he liked the music itself, Nirvana’s vocalist and guitarist was bothered by the lyrics, he considered “misogynous”.

“I’m a fan of rap, but most [das músicas] It’s so misogynist that I can’t even deal with it. I’m not a fan, respect and love totally because it is one of the only original forms of music that has been introduced, but white man doing rap is like watching a white man dancing. We couldn’t dance, we couldn’t rap. ”
