The artist challenges the behavioral models in the new single
In its last exit, DominatrixxxThe artist Yohan presents a manifesto against taboos and pre -existing beliefs, challenging the models of society with a bold mix of themes such as female empowerment, the sensuality and criticism of the patriarchate.
Yohan stresses that his goal is not to change the world, but to have an impact on those who are willing to open new perspectives.
Collaboration with Clemuum It was essential for this proposal, creating an authentic and genuine partnership, far from common superficiality in many current characteristics. Together they highlighted a visual narrative of great impact in the music video, which mixes fetish references and religious elements to question human hypocrisy, in particular religious hypocrisy, in a game of provocations and metaphors.
In a frank chat, Yohan He also faced digital platforms, highlighting the advantages and challenges they offer to the career of an independent artist, in particular in terms of accessibility and remuneration.
Despite the difficulties of the current scenario, Yohan He expects your music, in addition to being a provocation, leads people to have fun, dance and perhaps deconstruct while experiencing the new and disturbing.
You say that music is a manifesto. How do you think that “Domatrixxx” can have an impact on society, especially in the current context?
Yohan: “Domatrixxx” will it have an impact on society? I don’t know, and I don’t even have this fiction as before. I have been much more dreamy in this idea of changing the world. Today, I want to at least have an impact even if it is a community, helping people to see things differently, get out of the conventional and open the head of those who want it. In the end, this is also an impact on society, only on a scale much smaller than he ever wanted. But “Domatrixxx” has this ambition yes: free people of taboos, pre -existing questions beliefs and challenges absolute truths. It is useless, I am an artist. More intensely or not, I will always try to have an impact on society, right?
In “Domatrixxx”, the letter and the sound try to subvert the expectations. Yohan, what was the greatest difficulty in creating something so disruptive?
Yohan: What a wonderful question, I loved it! Well, I think that the texts themselves are not so disruptive for me or for you, but it can be for most of the company still macho, misogynist and prejudiced. So the writing was very natural, nothing forced. For me, “if you find it” while singing in music, it is more a question of character and personality than a debate on the reversal of man’s or women’s roles, do you know? But of course, it has a criticism of patriarchate and machismo there in a totally intentional way. Now, in sound, I think “Domatrixxx” has a disruptive touch. I don’t see many people make this mix that I explored in the EPS trilogy: dance music and albums, such as Dua Lipa, The Weeknd, Doja Cat has brought and even Gaga in “Chromatica” and Beyoncé “Renaissance”. But being Brazilian, I also wanted to bring funk, which is one of the most listened to genres here in Los Angeles and is gaining space on a global level. So I mixed what is happening out with what the bombs here, all in my musical taste. And, honestly? I think it was very good!
“I always say that music and the appearance are twin brothers. When I am composing, I already imagine the appearance, the scenes, the whole conception,” reveals Yohan.
The music video for “Domatrixx” was described as a bold visual show. What is the importance of creating a look that follows the intensity of music?
Yohan: Listen, I don’t know who described the clip that way, but I loved it [risos]. I always say that music and look are twin brothers. When I am composing, I already imagine the appearance, the scenes, the whole conception. And since I am responsible for the creative direction of my clips, this connection between sound and image is essential. Especially in a song that speaks of fetish, sensuality and sexuality. Knowing this, I wanted to explore more within the resources, time and program we had. The result was artistic and conceptual, especially in the introduction, which brings a more symbolic visual construction. Already during the clip, the narrative becomes more direct and provocative, but without losing the impact. I think we can find the right balance between concept and instinct.
What did you represent for you the visual metaphors of the clip, in particular the presence of religious elements?
Yohan: The visual metaphors of the clip illustrate human hypocrisy, especially when someone actually believes absolute and ignore other perspectives. I used Catholicism as a starting point because it is a religion full of rules on what it can or cannot be done, but where, ironically, many “sin”. In addition, the scandals of theft, abuse and crimes within religious institutions are frequent, not only in Catholicism, but in various beliefs. Like the Church, the crucifix and its symbols are so surprising, this criticism not only causes a cultural and religious reflection, but also creates a strong visual impact on desires: dark or not.
Yohan, in “Domatrixx”, the presence of Clemuum plays a very important role. Do you think that the collaboration between you represents a new form of partnership in current music, more concentrated on narration and shared energy?
Yohan: Cleanzaum was essential in this song, partnership and clip for several reasons. In addition to being of great talent and representing this powerful woman and in advance of the times, our friendship has brought a real connection to the partnership. We met in the pandemic and we always believe it, so this collaboration was born very real. Today we see many features without synergy, concentrated only on numbers and strategies – which is not wrong, but makes the difference in the final result. Partnership like this, with delivery and will, should happen more, although they depend on many factors and, in particular, on the artists themselves.
“Domatrixxx” is available on main musical platforms. What is the importance of these platforms for your career and how do you think they can help bring your music to several people?
Yes, “Domatrixxx” is on all musical platforms, including YouTube, in which the experience is even better with the clip. But I confess that I miss the age of the so -called And we are honest, the remuneration is not at all right. Not that technology is not surprising for those who consume. It is easy, accessible and often free (which, ironically, ends up devaluing the work and investments of the artists). I just think that the system could be more right and more balanced.
What do you expect more to get with music and the message “Dominatrixxx”?
Despite criticisms of machismo and hypocrisy, my goal is that people have fun, dance, beat their hair, the desire for overflow and, in the middle of everything, deconstruct and try the new one.
