Drummer has already known and worked with various musicians throughout his career, but had a different feeling when he was facing two specific legends
Achilles Priester boasts a heavyweight curriculum in the heavy metal. The drummer has worked with Angra, Paul di’anno, Primal Fear, Dragonforce, Tony Macalpine, Nightlyamong others, besides having commanded the Hangar. Today, integrates the Wasp and the solo band of Edu Falaschi. In addition, he met and shared the stage with iconic names throughout his career.
Interestingly, only two musicians made him really impressed to meet personally, in the sense of thinking, “This guy is a legend.” In an interview with Rolling Stone Brazilhe says that Steve Harrisbassist and founder of Iron Maidenand Blackie LawlessWasp frontman torn this type of reaction.
Initially, the drummer says:
“Since I joined Wasp, it was a big challenge. There were only two people in my life that when I saw personally, I said, ‘Car#lho, this guy is a legend.’ The first was Steve Harris, at the time I was playing with Angra at a festival in Spain. I saw the guy and said, ‘This guy set up Iron Maiden.’ This guy changed my life. And the other guy was Blackie, when I went to make my hearing and he entered the room. ”
Priester then remembered the test to join Wasp the reputation of technical drummer and virtuous almost damaged him at an early moment.
“He [Blackie] He entered with glasses, came with his guitar in his hand and came to me. When I went up from the drums, he said, ‘No, wait, let me just ask you something before putting this guitar here on the floor. Do you think you are able to play songs as they are, not fill with things? Because you know that those songs are, those turns are important like that, right? ‘ I said, ‘I think yes’. He looked at me and said, ‘Do you think?’ I said, ‘No, I’m sure, I’m sure.’ And he: ‘Ah, so ok, I’ll put the guitar on the floor’. ”
Achilles Priester and Wasp
Occupying the vacancy that was once Mike DupkeAchilles Priester plays with WASP since 2017. During the interview, the drummer celebrated the good phase experienced by the band currently, especially in the United States.
“It had been a long time since the band had not played in the United States. We made the first tour of this return in 2022 and, man, it was practically all Sold Out. Now we just did another tour there, which was about eight weeks as well, just like another. We played even larger places. It seems that the band resumed this space there in the United States. ”
Interestingly, since its entrance, the group has played in Brazil only once: in Dark Dimensions Metal Fest In Guarulhos (SP), on December 8, 2019. The second performance will only take place in May this year, as one of the festival’s attractions Bangers Open Air.
“I’m very looking forward to coming here, because I still remember that show we did here in 2019. I was nervous to Car#lho, much more than playing in France, Spain, Italy, because here is mine country. It looked like it had a larger load. Blackie still played. ‘Today are you going to play that not all shows, or will you want to show you more for being in your country?’ I said, ‘No, it will be the same.’ The only thing that changed was when we were walking to the stage, he said: ‘Today, before we played ‘I WANNA BE SOMEBODY’I will introduce you to your people. ‘ I said, ‘P#ta, it will be F#da, it will be awesome’. When he introduced me, when he started talking like this: ‘About two years ago, we were looking for drummer’, the crowd already started screaming: ‘Aquiles’, p#ta, it was too much to see him announcing, right? ‘The Brazilian Beast, Achilles Priester’, then I climbed into my cage. To this day I shiver. ”
Finally, Priester – who is about to end a battery tour with Thomas Lang in the country – said:
“So, so, I have a great affection for Brazil, because these things only happen because of this love, the passion that the public has for all my work, right, man? From the hangar, with Paul Di’anno, with Angra, with all these bands. It’s a lot of history and I feel very connected here in Brazil. ”
