THE Rolling Stone Brazil chatted separately with Noodles (guitarist of Offspring), Jakob Nowell (vocalist and guitarist from Sublime) and with all members of the The Warning (The sisters Daniela, Pauline and Alejandra Villarreal Vélez), to know what to expect from the presentations. Several other subjects have been addressed, but the remaining material of the interviews will be published in the coming days.
From the first to the twelfth time
When it comes to Brazil, Noodles and the other interviewees are in very different positions. The offspring guitarist is coming with his band for the tenth time (!), While the new frontman of the sublime – who occupies the post left by his father, Bradley Nowellkilled in May 1996 – makes its debut in the country. Your group colleagues, Eric Wilson (low) and Bud Gaugh (battery), have already visited us with the Sublime with Romebut this is Jakob’s inaugural journey. The Warning sisters have never played here either, although they have already gone to neighboring countries, such as Argentina and Chile.
Noodles:“I am happy that this time we are bringing our own show, to play a little more of music. I think we will also have our own production and other things this time, so it will be a little more like the offspring show than when we play at festivals [como o Rock in Rio 2022 e o Lollapalooza 2024]. But last year it was also very good. It’s always good to play for Brazilian fans, who are madly energetic and passionate. ”
Jakob Nowell:“I’m so excited. I always wanted to go to Brazil. I know we have a lot of sublime fans out there, but overall it’s an amazing place. It is very much to be able to play another part of the world. […] But I don’t know anything about Brazil, just what you see on TV – and you can’t trust it. I saw many photos and videos, a lot of beautiful architecture and the beaches. Also, I play a lot of video games and I know it has a great game culture in Brazil. ”

Paulina Villarreal Vélez (The Warning):“Brazil is a country where people are known to be the best audience in the world. We also came from a very energetic country, Mexico. We have already toured through South America, but we always had this desire to play in Brazil. Being able to do this with offspring and all these great bands, in three shows, is the realization of a dream. […] When we entered the tour of the tour, I looked at the other bands and thought, ‘Oh, we are kind of strange here.’ But the opportunity came up when we did a show with offspring in the United States and we have a lot of gratitude. ”
Comments on Lineup colleagues
What, Jakob Nowell and The Warning members have to say about his lineup colleagues? The offspring guitarist admits not to know so well the work of sisters Villarreal Vélez, but loves all the other climbing. Sublime’s new frontman confessed that until the day of the interview, he didn’t even know he would have other attractions beyond them and offspring. Mexico’s trio, on the other hand, has revealed that it has been a bit of the invitation to integrate a mostly punk rock tour, but guarantees to like everyone.
Noodles:“I know Eric (Sublime) Very well, he is a love. We played with the sublime there at the beginning and have always been great. Bradley was a unique talent and I look forward to knowing his son. I’m a big fan of The Damned. At one point they signed with the Nitro Recordswhen Dexter (HollandOffspring vocalist) was still in charge, and released the album Serious disorder (2001), which is phenomenal. […] I don’t know much about The Warning, but I heard the songs and found it great. We have a long story with Rise Against, we did shows together – also with Zach (Blayguitarist) when he was in Hagfish – And they are phenomenal. And I’m super excited about Amyl & The Sniffers. I have never seen them play live, but I’m a big fan and the records are great. ”
Jakob:“I always liked offspring, but when I was about 15 years old, in one of my first jobs, I talked to some boys who were more ‘cool’, I spoke of offspring and they said, ‘Dude, offspring is gay for car#lho’, reacted as if I had a disease. It hit me. But they were kids and, fortunately, no one else thinks that way. There is no reason to be evil with any band. And I know all the other bands, I feel honored to be able to share the stage with them, but the one I heard most was Amyl & The Sniffers. I didn’t know we were playing with them all so far. ”
Paulina (The Warning):“I didn’t even watch Amyl & The Sniffers, but I love them. I think we’ll have two shows together and it will be fun. We were able to watch offspring at a common event where we played in the United States. But it will be amazing to be able to enjoy all these shows in Brazil, having this energy with performances that we have seen before. ”

What to expect from the shows
At least amid the three interviewees, each band seems to have a different proposal with their show in Brazil. Offspring wants to celebrate its legacy at the same time and enjoy the longest stage to rescue not always remembered music, whether newer or even old. The sublime is supported by the catalog of three albums recorded in the 1990s, while The Warning will prioritize its most current songs to captivate an audience that may not know them.
Noodles:“We are trying to add more new songs and we have rotating positions in the repertoire. When you have a new album (Supercharged2024), the challenge is to find what works or not live. Also, find the least known bands from other records that can be added. Invariably, let’s stop playing someone’s favorite. But we rehearse all the songs on the new album and I think it is ready to be played. And yes, we intend to play the music ‘Eat to brazil’. We can even shoot and make a live clip. ”

Jakob:“The first year of the Sublime’s return consisted of feeling all the vibe of what a band’s show is like in modern times. Now, let’s try to add some more songs and we are also working to compose an unprecedented material. If we enjoy a lot, we can even play, although I know that fans want to hear the good old ones. Let’s play a lot of favors of the fans. Do you know how many musicians hate playing their hits for years? I don’t have it, because I never had to play ‘SANTERIA’ or ‘What I Got’Then I love to touch them. And they will also roll some less known songs from the albums. In addition, we are working on some legal changes in the scenario, stage design and things like that. ”
Daniela Villarreal Vélez (The Warning):“We do not yet know the duration of our set, but of course we want to promote our latest songs from the album KEEP ME FED (2024). We are probably playing a lot of his songs. It depends on how long our set will be. […] We love to introduce ourselves in places where people don’t know us and, like, ‘Bam!’
Soon there is more
Other excerpts from the interviews will be published soon in the Rolling Stone Brazil. With Noodleswe talked more about the current moment of Offspringthe feeling that they are more popular than ever and future. Jakob Nowell deepened in its other initiatives other than SublimeBut of course, he also reflected on being occupying his father’s post and next plans with the group. The Warning It told a little more about its beginning in music, its growth in fame and the challenges of presenting itself as a “Latin” attraction especially in the context of the United States.
