Founding member and main composer of the first albums joined the band between 1976 and 1978, and participated in punctual returns
The guitarist Brian Jamesfounding member of The Damneddied last Thursday, 6, at 70. The information was confirmed by its official page in the Facebook (via Igor Miranda website). The cause was not revealed.
James, of real name Brian Robertsonwas born on February 18, 1955, in London, England. Before joining the group that consecrated him, he joined bands as London SS, The Subterraneans and Bastard.
With The Damned, it was part of the original formation between 1976 and 1978. It composed virtually all the material present in the first two albums of the group, DAMNED DAMNED DAMNED and Music for pleasureboth from 1977.
In the following years, it integrated projects like Tanz der Youth (Supergroup with ex-musiciansHawkwind and Iron Maiden that even opened for the Black Sabbath on the tour Never Say Die!) and The Lords of the New Churchbesides having touched with Iggy Pop and developed solo career.
His return to The Damned took place in 1988 for shows that would mark a farewell to the stage group – which did not happen. Involved in another series of projects, including the Racketsnext to Wayne Kramer (MC5), DUFF MCKAGAN (Guns n ‘Roses), Stewart Copeland (The Police) and Clem Burke (Blondie).
In 2022, Jones held a series of five shows with the original formation of The Damned in the UK. It was their final performances alongside the band, which, curiously, is in Brazil to perform in São Paulo this Friday, 7, and Saturday, 8, and in Curitiba on Sunday, 9. The last two commitments occur by opening to the Offspring.
