Before the present momentum, band took nine years – between Days Go by (2012) and Let the Bad Times Roll (2021) – to release a new album
Years before launching Supercharged last October, the Offspring experienced his greatest creative hiatus: nine years among albums Days go by (2012) and Let the Bad Times Roll (2021). The situation made fans surprised, as the group continued to perform shows, just did not provide unprecedented material.
Why did this happen? In an interview with Rolling Stone Brazilthe guitarist Noodles recognizes that several situations “They delayed” The group in the last decade. One of them is, in fact, very cool: the vocalist and guitarist Dexter Holland He decided to go back to his studies and obtain a PhD title in molecular biology, with all the support of his music colleagues.
He, who was a biologist formed since the 1980s, had interrupted his academic career when the band began to be successful in the early 1990s. The resumption took place in 2014, with the proper conclusion in 2017.
However, the current moment was favorable for the composition of new songs – so it was not so long for the release of Supercharged compared to Let the Bad Times Roll. Noodles reflects:
“Between Days go by and Let the Bad Times RollDexter returned to college and focused on his PhD (in molecular biology). We were excited about it and supported him. Not many rock guys can say they have a PhD. I only know Mil (Descendents), Greg Graffin (Bad Religion) and Brian May (Queen). Also, when we went to the studio, things didn’t happen so fast. But before we finish Let the Bad Times RollWe felt we were more creative. Then we released this album during the pandemic, unable to tour, so Bob (Rockproducer) appeared and continued to compose new music until it could go on tour. We started the tour of Let the Bad Times Roll And at the breaks, we returned to the studio. ”

New Music Come There
Even Noodles said that Offspring has been working at this time in an unreleased song. For now, only one, which can be accompanied by a remix of an old track.
“We are always planning new music. Now we are focused on this year’s intense tour, but we were in the studio with Bob last week, working on a single song. I’m not sure what this song will be, but we are working on some things: a new song and then a remix of an old song, trying to see what we can do. ”
No retirement for offspring
There are only no plans to stop. During the interview, the guitarist even regret that a band of the same segment, but younger than his, announced the end of his activities.
“See the example of Sum 41which came around 2000. One of their first tours was with us, they were in a van when we were already on a bus. Now they release their best and most successful album (Heaven: X: Hell)… And then decide to retire. I regretted it, but I was excited to see them so successful. ”
