Eddie Vedder and Stephen Marley shared new covers of two classics of Neil Young Released on the album Harvest (1972). The initiative is part of a next tribute album for the benefit of Bridge School.
While “Rockin ‘in the Free World” won a live version of the Pearl Jam, Vedder made a cover of “The Needle and the Damage Done”the devastating song of Young 1972 on heroin addiction. The vocalist of Pearl Jam touches the cover very straightforward (not that this is a bad thing), with just acoustic guitar accompaniment and a vocal performance that distinctly resembles the smooth and trembling tenor of Young.
Already Stephen Marley presented a version with reggae infusion of “Old Man”injecting the Young The Northern California Ranch janitor he bought in the early seventies with a firm and firm energy.
“The Needle and the Damage Done”from Vedderand “Old Man”from Marleymark the third and fourth parts of Heart of Gold: The Songs of Neil Youngfollowing the interpretation of Courtney Barnett of “Lotta Love” and the interpretation of Chris Pierce of “Southern Man”. The album arrives on April 25th and should be the first volume of a two -album project.
The next compilation will also have contributions from Fiona Apple, Mumford & Sons, Brandi Carlile, Sharon Van Etten, Lumineers, Steve Earle and the Doobie Brothers with Allison Russell. Volume two artists have not yet been announced.
The profits of Heart of Gold will benefit Bridge School, that the late ex-wife of Young, Pegihe co -fired to help individuals with severe physical disabilities. Between 1986 and 2016, Young held an annual charity concert to raise funds for the institution.
