Elis Regina’s son discard the hologram to the shows: “If you want to see, you will have to close your eyes”

The use of artificial intelligence will be limited to the restoration of the audios and the interviews of the singer

The music producer João Marcello Bôscolison of the singer Elis ReginaHe denied the possibility of using holograms to recreate the mother’s image in live performances. The declaration came among public expectations for the event Elis 80which celebrates the artist’s 80th anniversary and takes place this Friday 28, in Esppaço Unimed, in San Paolo.

The speculation on the use of technology grew after the announcement that artificial intelligence would be part of the celebration. However, Bôcoli clarified that the appeal was used only for the restoration of the singer’s audio and interviews, allowing the cleaning of the noise and the isolation of the voice.

“We have never used and we will never use, in the Elis catalog, artificial intelligence tools for the creative area (…) If you want to see Elis, you will have to close your eyes,” said the producer in an interview with the CNN.

According to him, the refusal of the use of olography begins from the perception that this technology, in the present way, has no emotion. He recalled that the family received a proposal a few years ago to create a hologram of the singer, but the result did not cope with them. “The appearance is not there,” he said.

Even like this, João Marcello does not totally exclude the possibility for the future, as long as the brothers, Maria Rita AND Pedro MarianoAnd future generations agree. “Only the day when the gaze is there, but it didn’t happen and it wouldn’t have happened,” he added.

Although the family opposes the use of holograms in musical performances, the image of the singer has already been digitally recreated in another context. In 2024, Volkswagen launched the commercial “generations”, in which Elis Regina seems to sing alongside her daughter, Maria Rita, through deepfake and artificial intelligence. The announcement has thrilled many spectators, but also generated criticism, with some people who question the ethics of the initiative.

Bôscoli minimized the controversy, claiming that criticism came from a small part of the public. “There were people who wanted to enter Conar (National Auto Council -advertising) who said it is a misleading propaganda, because Elis is not alive. I found a ridiculous discussion, but respect for the opinion,” he said. Despite the controversy, he sees a positive side in the debate generated by advertising. “It was the first debate for adults on the limits of artificial intelligence,” he said.
