Singer returns to the list of nominees and says she did not expect the appointment
Mariah Carey spoke publicly about his nomination to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame of 2025, stating that it faces the appointment as an honor, but does not create expectations about the result. The singer had already been nominated in 2024, but was not chosen among the honorees.
“It’s a great honor. I don’t know if I will win, so I don’t want to get too excited,” he told Associated Press. “I don’t think I waited for that. I really wasn’t thinking about it. And here we are.”
This year’s list of nominees also includes names such as Cyndi Lauper, Billy Idol, Joe Cocker, Chubby Checker, Outkastand Oasis. Mariah, who turned 56 in March, released her debut album in 1990 – the year that made her eligible for the nomination, according to the 25 -year rule after the first commercial release. “I don’t know if the genre matters. I think today people are more open to different genres. But sometimes I feel a rock star.”
She also revealed that she intends to release unpublished music from the album grunge she recorded in the 1990s and never officially released. According to Mariah, the project should not come out complete in the summer of the northern hemisphere, but some excerpts can be shared soon.
“Maybe I launch some songs from him. I already have several clip ideas.”
