Musician recorded two studio albums and a live album with the legendary heavy metal band; also played with Eric Burdon and Roger Glover

The North-Sandery Drummer James Leslie Binksconsecrated under the name Les binksdied at 73 years old. The cause was not informed.

Binks was notable, in particular, for playing with the Judas Priest Between 1977 and 1979. Despite its short ticket, it recorded two seminal albums for the group – STAINED CLASS (1978) and Killing Machine (1978, also released as Hell Bent For Leather) – and was in the live Unleashed in the East (1979). One of the most celebrated songs in the catalog in general, “Beyond the Realms of Death”it was composed by him in partnership with the singer Rob Halford.

Priest-which, curiously, starts a tour of Brazil on Wednesday, 16, with a show in Brasilia and two in São Paulo (Saturday, 19, and Sunday, 20)-was in charge of giving the news on social networks. A brief text (via Igor Miranda website) states:

“We deeply regret the death of Les and sent our affection to their family, friends and fans.
The acclaimed battery he presented was first -class, demonstrating his unique techniques, talent, style and accuracy.
Thank you, Les – Your acclamation will remain alive… ”

More about les binks

Before playing with Judas Priest, Binks, who was born in July 1951, worked with a series of known musicians, such as Eric Burdon (The Animals, War) and Roger Glover (Deep Purple), besides the pop band Fancy. The connection with Glover earned Binks the Priest Drummer post, as the bassist had produced the album Sin after sin (1977).

At the time, the English group had Simon Phillipswho went out to focus on his career as a studio musician. Binks remained until 1979, when it was upset that it follows not being considered a member, only one contractor. With its break, Dave Holland (ex-Trapeze) got the vacancy.

In the following decades, Les Binks got involved with a series of artists and bands, such as Lionheart (with the formerIron MaidenDennis Stratton), Tytan, Eugenio Finardi, Raw Glorybetween others. He also played in cover projects and followed the English underground scene.

In recent years, the drummer has created a band to play songs from Judas Priest: Les Binks’ Priesthood. Originally, he would be a member of the Kk’s Priestformed by the guitarist Kk Downingbut ended up due to a fracture suffered in the fist before the recordings of the first album. The vacancy was with SEAN ELG.

Binks joined Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022 as a member of Judas Priest. During the officialization ceremony in November of the year, he played with the band for the first time in over four decades.
