Darren Star, the writer and producer who captured the viewers sex and cityteamed up with fellow TV veteran Jeffrey Richman to create a new series: disengaged. The drama (which can be broadcast with a netflix subscription ) follows a newly single gay man as he navigates the modern dating world after his 17-year partner left him. Star and Richman assembled a solid cast of stars for the show, including frontman Neil Patrick Harris. And he is joined by Hollywood veterans Tisha Campbell and Marcia Gay Harden, who recently opened at Gossipify what they learned from each other working together.
disengaged boasts a talented (and family-friendly) cast. , and Tisha Campbell and Marcia Gay Harden were certainly great choices for the show. Their resumes speak for themselves, as each of the stars has many credits to their name. On the show, Harden plays socialite Claire Lewis, who is still trying to figure out her new normal after her husband left her after decades of marriage. One thing that’s clear about Claire at first is that she has just the right amount of quirks about her, and I raised them when I spoke to Harden at the show’s press conference. It turns out that the seasoned actress was able to draw on some real-life experiences during character development:
like all actors [have done], I attended. And so I participated in these great events that remind the way of life of the rich and famous. And I knew these women who were so specific, they had so much money and they were so used to having power and getting away with it. And then I remember it, and then I’m decoupled too, and all the things I was going to do, I definitely used anger to cover up the pain and things like that. So channel that part of me and that Upper East Side woman I once met. And in the mix, it’s really fun, and then playing with Tisha …
The actress certainly brought her A-game when it came to playing the role of sweet, but sometimes deranged, Claire. Of course, the same can be said for Tisha Campbell, who plays Suzanne Prentiss, Neil Patrick Harris’ colleague Michael and business partner. Although Campbell herself has toured the block more than once, she explained during our interview that she was definitely in awe of her co-star on set:
seeing it is like [watching] a symphony of a woman. Watching her shoot a scene and you can tell she dissected it like crazy and she found these beautiful colors and rhythms to add. And there are so many ups and downs. It’s wonderful. It is funny. I don’t know how he does it. In the midst of heartbreak, it makes it fun and witty, and it’s beautiful to watch. It is beautiful to look at.
The humble Marcia Gay Harden, who has an Oscar, a Tony and other accolades to her name, paid tribute to her colleague. With that, Harden explained how she “stole” the little shop of horrors alum:
And only on Tisha, it’s amazing. It’s timing and ingenuity, and I told him I was stealing it. I steal it, I steal it all the time. I’m like, ‘I’ll do this a little bit. Okay, Tisha did it before, but I’ll do it now.
Although both stars have contributed much of their talent, they both give credit for what is due. Tisha Campbell, who met her recently Martino co stars cried the writing of Darren Star and Jeffrey Richman, who said he gave a very distinct “pace” to the process:
But I mean, we have to pay tribute to the writers. You know, Darren Star and Jeffrey Richman, who created these characters, and they had a wonderful team of people who wrote great scripts. It was the first time I had something to say then [was] incredibly juicy and one that I had to work very, very hard on. They have a particular rhythm. You know, you saw it on Modern Family. You saw it in Kimmy Schmidt … and Sex in the City. It has a rhythm. And it’s so well done that I wanted to make sure I was right about them. They are fantastic.
It looks like the stars had a lot of fun working on the show, and it shows when you watch it. disengaged equilibrium field , humor and drama and in doing so gives the cast fun moments to play with. And if things work out, Marcia Gay Harden, Tisha Campbell and company. they will be able to play and learn more about each other in their second season.
