Unlavoded tribute happened during the second performance of the group in 2025, held in Yokohama, Japan
THE Guns n ‘Roses is in the Asian stage of its new tour, “BECAUSE What you want & what you get are Two Completely Different Things” (“Because what you want and what you will have are two completely different things”). Following an inaugural presentation in South Korea, the group took the K-Arena stage in Yokohama, Japan, last Monday, 5.
The second show with the new drummer Isaac Carpenter, in the vacancy left by Frank Ferrer, had the return of songs as “You Could Be Mine”, “Don’t Cry”, “Hard Skool”, “Absurd” and “Madagascar”who had not entered the previous set. But the highlight came from a cover that never, at any time, had been executed by GN’R.
It is about “Thunder and Lightning”music released by Thin Lizzy on the album of the same name – his last – dated 1983 (via Igor Miranda website). Here, the bassist DUFF MCKAGAN assumed the vocals.
The performance served as a kind of tribute not declared to the guitarist John Sykeswho participated in the album in question and died in December 2024 at the age of 65. The musician, curiously, has already taken a test to enter Guns in 2009, after the departure of Robin Finck.
The story was told by Richard Fortusanother occupant of the instrument in the GNR and member of later incarnations of Thin Lizzy, in an interview with Tone Talk (via Igor Miranda website). At the time, he guaranteed; Sykes touched incredibly well in this hearing, but its difficult fame would not allow the bond to be established.
