The guitarist of King Crimson and collaborator of David Bowie, Talking Heads, Blondie and several others shared the story in a New video Posted on the weekend alongside his wife and collaborator, Toyah Wilcox.
“He had a heart attack two weeks ago. And you were in the right place, at the right time, and I’m very grateful, because you have gone through a lot.”Wilcox declared in the video. Fripp then explained the surreal sequence of events.
In the weeks before a trip to Italy for a show, the musician was dealing with what he believed was a reflux crisis. Having gone through something similar a few years earlier, Fripp didn’t think much about it. But the day he flew to Italy, he said, felt “More discomfort”.
Although Fripp’s team had already scheduled a medical appointment by landing, they decided to take him to a heart hospital in Bergamo. Although Fripp said he thought doctors would prescribe some medicine for acid reflux, they ended up warning him to alarming levels of troponine in the blood, which may be a sign of a recent heart attack.
Wilcox then said that fripp went through “Five hours of surgery, intensive treatment and then a second surgery”. But the musician focused on a totally different moment.
“I was in the emergency room without knowing very well what was going on, except that I knew they would do something. And a nurse appeared and shaved my balls! [Risos] My dear friend, I really didn’t want his job at that moment. Now that’s it, are you worried about my heart? All good. What are you doing scraping my balls? ”
Toyah then explained wisely that such an attitude would probably rid his body of anything that could house germs before undergoing heart surgery.
How is Robert Fripp
Robert Fripp has already been able to return home in the UK, and although he is currently taking some medicines, he is on his way to a good recovery in the coming months. The musician ended the video encouraging people who think they have heartburn or reflux “Really investigate”why “It can be something else”.
The guitarist did not seem to let emergency surgeries disrupt his music. He noted that, after being discharged from the hospital in Italy, he still managed to play at his scheduled show.
