Music Music showing Jimmy Page at the height, according to Eddie Van Halen

Guitarist deceased in 2015 was a big fan of Led Zeppelin and even developed his Page -inspired tapping technique

Jimmy Page It was one of the great influences of Eddie van Halen on the guitar. The musician of LED ZEPPELINIt is even credited as the greatest inspiration for the late Dark American to develop the tapping technique-which is not his creation, but was certainly brought to another level in his hands.

Like every fan, Eddie had his favorite Jimmy work. For him, the music Stairway to Heavenreleased by Zeppelin on the untitled album of 1971 – known as IV – Present the guitarist at his height.

The opinion was shared by Van Halen in an interview in the late 1980s to the journalist (not the bassist) Steve Harris. The material was recovered by the project The Tapes Archive and shared by the website Far Out Magazine.

Eddie, who left us in 2015, declared at the time:

“Jimmy Page had a really different touch. See a song like ‘Stairway to Heaven’. It’s a classic, the solo is classic, everything in it is classic. This is probably the height of his career, the best thing he has ever done. ”

The context of speech is as interesting as the compliment. The interview was granted at the time of the album Ou812 (1988), when the Van HalenAs a band, it bet even more on keyboards and synthesizers while setting aside the guitars – especially the accelerated soils. There was a fan question and part of the press about this new guidance, but Eddie defended her, precisely with a mention of the page.

“Many people ask me, ‘Why don’t you play as fast and madly as before?’ I kind of became a wider musician, improving in compositions. I don’t think someone lasts in the music world just playing as fast as I think that’s what differentiates me. […] See Jimmy Page. At first he was also a fast guitarist in the first two albums. But he has become a good producer and songwriter, I think that’s what it is about. ”

Jimmy Page’s best solo, according to… Jimmy Page

Interestingly, Jimmy Page disagrees with Eddie Van Halen about the best solo of her career. For Led Zeppelin guitarist, his most inspired moment is in Achilles Last Standopening track of the album Presence (1976). In an interview with Classic Rock (via Igor Miranda website), he added:

“It was complicated, to say the least, try to replicate ‘Achilles’ later – or at least get something on that same level in other parts of the album.”

And regarding “Stairway to Heaven”its creator states:

“The soil of ‘Stairway to Heaven’ It was done very quickly. In fact, there were already layers of recording underneath. The ‘bottleneck’ you hear was there before the ground existed. You saved about three records of recording to assemble guitar soils, so you could choose the best excerpts. ”
