Could Perry songs return to Journey?

Vocalist was in the band between 1978 and 1998, but has lived more secluded since his departure, with few works involving music

Steve Perry acted as singer of Journey between 1978 and 1998. Voice of great successes as “Don’t Stop Believin” and “Any Way You Want It”the artist even made cover versions of some classics of his old band with Willie Nelsonin a version of “Faithfully” and DOLLY PARTONin “Open Arms”.

In 2020, the singer gave an interview to Axs tvtranscribed by Rock and Roll Garage (via Igor Miranda website), in which he explained what motivated his departure from the band:

“It was a combination. The passion for music had abandoned me, I couldn’t find the honest passion for singing. Because of that I went into some ‘festive behaviors’ to support my frustrations. My voice was also suffering. It all started to cause pain in me and it didn’t help restore my passion for music. It was very clear that I needed to stop. Doing it would not take me anywhere.

Journey keyboardist, JONATHAN CAIN narrates in your biography, Don’t Stop Believin ‘: The Man, The Band and the Song That Inspired Generations (2011), which Perry did not deal well with his replacement on the album promotion tour Trial by Fire (1996). According to Cain, the vocalist would have said:

“Do what you want, but don’t call Journey. Call the band of anything else. Don’t crack in the stone. I don’t think I can go back if you break it.”

Steve Perry and Journey today

In a recent interview by Steve Perry to Los Angeles Times (via Ultimate Classic Rock), the vocalist talked about his feelings about the band. The artist said he is proud of all the work they did together:

“I mean, everything is fine between us. We were great together. I think the material and our achievements resist the test of time, which proves that we were good together. I am very proud of what we accomplished together, because we were as soldiers in the trench trying to do something together. We knew we could do that we believed.”

The last time Perry was on stage with the band was in 1991, in a short performance and with incomplete formation (via Igor Miranda website). Since leaving Journey, the singer has been among those musicians who, after a successful career and a lot of recognition, have lived a life more outside the spotlight.

The vocalist narrates exactly this life choice. Despite a career with high points, currently prefers other experiences (via Ultimate Classic Rock):

“I think I really like the loneliness and privacy that my life has now. I like my studio. I’m looking at my speakers right now, and it’s such a creative and fertile environment, with all these ideas that I still need to end. So, I don’t know. I think I’m really enjoying this new creative wave I’m going into-with new songs, compositions and recordings.”
