Metallica guitarist says he sees people “willing to sell his own family members” in this specific branch of collecting
Kirk Hammett He is a dedicated collector, both guitars and horror movie posters. The guitarist of Metallic It has several and valuable items in these two areas and is always addressing the theme in its interviews.
He recently participated in the Rolling Stone Music Nowpodcast of the American edition of the magazine, and joked about what he considers the “worst type of collector in the world”.
Yes, there are maniacs who do whatever possible to get a certain guitar. However, Kirk said nothing comes close to the fanaticism demonstrated by Terror Posters Collectors.
The guitarist lamented by saying that it is uncommon to see camaraderie between collectors of this niche. He still had fun to ensure knowing people “willing to sell his own family members” to get a rare poster.
He said, according to the transcription of the Rolling Stone Brazil:
“It’s rare, Mano. It’s rare because in the world of horror movie posters, it’s cruel. I see people doing a second, third mortgage in the house to buy movie posters. I know people who seem willing to sell their own family members just to get a particular movie poster.”
In the musical field, it’s different. He states:
“Maybe it’s even the way in the guitar world. I don’t know. I don’t see, but at least there seems to be a certain honor between collecting musicians, because we all kind of occupying the same space.”
Kirk Hammett complains of those who explore
However, regardless of the area of collecting, Kirk Hammett complained about the fact that profiteers use this obsession of collectors to profit in an exorbitant and disproportionate manner.
According to the guitarist of Metallicmore than getting a rare item for his collection, he prefers to leave a business with the feeling that it was good for both sides:
“Now, there are some dealers out there that are simply unscrupulous, just want to maximize the value of their guitars. And I understand, they are business men. But, man, it takes us back to my other point. When you get a good exchange business where everyone is happy, everyone has the guitars they want in their hands and everyone goes with a big smile on their face.
Regarding guitars, one of the most coveted that Kirk has in his collection is the Les Paul Standard model 1959 known as Greeny. The model, of changed configurations compared to the original, belonged to two legends of the instrument: Peter Green and Gary Moore.
