Band will produce vinyls of nine albums with recycled plastic, an initiative that reduces 85% of carbon emissions compared to conventional vinyls
About to turn 30 on the road, the Coldplay announced the next step of his mission for sustainability, which became one of Bana’s flags led by Chris Martin.
This time, the group announced the relaunch of some of their albums in vinyl. The measure, however, brings a novelty: 140g transparent discs will be made from recycled plastic materials.
Through technology of Ecorecordthe manufacturing process is responsible for about 85% less carbon emissions when compared to traditional vinyls.
Nine albums will be part of the initiative: Parachutes (2000), A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002), X & Y (2005), Viva La Vida (2008), Mylo Xyloto (2011), Ghost Stories (2014), Head Full of Dreams (2015), EVERYDAY LIFE (2019) and Music of the spheres (2021). The reissues are now available for pre-sale.
The recycling process of Ecorecord It uses polyethylene (PET) terephthalate for the manufacture of the discs, which results in a light and resistant recycled material. On average, each 140g LP uses about nine PET bottles, which are clean and processed before molding.
This is not the band’s first partnership with the project. Moon Musicalbum released by Coldplay in 2024, was released completely from recycled plastics, becoming the first in the world in the 140g Ecorecord RPET LP format.
