Music Marr tells why he refused fortune to gather The Smiths

Guitarist admits that he received an offer with “exorbitant amount of money”, but did not accept and explain the reason for the decision

After the Oasis gather for a farewell tour, another famous band of Manchester, Englandreceived a tempting proposal to play again. In this case, however, it did not roll. Even with a lot of money involved, Johnny Marr says that it declined the offer to resume the The Smiths.

In an interview with Podcast The Overlap (via Louder), Marr stated that he is satisfied with his solo career, started in 2013 with the album The Messenger. In his opinion, the “vibe” of a possible return of the The Smiths It would not be good at all.

He explains:

“We received an offer very recently, but I said ‘no’. I’m not an idiot, I just think the vibe is not good. It’s a bad vibe. It was an exorbitant amount of money, but I also like what I’m doing now, which makes everything much easier. I like where I am.

In the same interview, Johnny Marr talked about his departure from The Smiths, which took place almost 40 years ago. The guitarist admits that it was not easy to leave the group, but guarantees that he does not regret – even though he suffered a lot at the time.

He stated:

“I was terrible. It was horrible. But it was really unsustainable. It was an emotional decision, but it wasn’t an impulsive decision. I thought about it for a long time and I was really broken. It was certainly not a career -based decision. It was difficult, definitely difficult.

The Smiths even recruited the guitarist Perry to the vacancy open after the departure of Marr. However, the group imploded before launching any unprecedented material.

Morrissey pursued a solo career and in 1988 launched his debut Viva hate. Johnny Marr got involved with other bands and artists, such as The Preends, Talking Heads, Pet Shop Boys and Modest mouse.

After The Messengerthe guitarist has already released three more soil career albums: Playland (2014), Call the Comet (2018) and Fever Dreams PTS 1–4 (2022).
