With two albums released in June, suspicious photos and no real presence, the group already exceeds 400,000 monthly listeners on platforms
In less than a month of “existence”, the Velvet sundown Already adds more than 400 thousand monthly listeners in Spotify. The supposed soft psychedelia band and retro aesthetics released two albums in June and, even with a virtually non -existent history outside the streaming platforms, managed to pierce the algorithm and draw attention, not just for sound, but for doubt: who (or what) is behind it?
With inventive names like GABE FARROOW, Lennie West and Orion “Rio” Del Marthe quartet presents itself as a group that mixes “Alt-Pop Cinematographic and Soul Analog of Dreams”. The description, by itself, already carries that scent of thing generated by trying to seem artistic. But the warning was even more evident when netizens noted that there is no concrete presence of the band outside the digital universe, except a profile in Instagram Newly created, filled with photos that seem rendering by artificial intelligence.

Distrust grew after more attentive fans found that even the alleged quote from Billboard In the profile of Spotify (“the memory of something you have never lived, and yet it seems real”) has never been published by the magazine. In other words: it seems that we are facing another musical project built from scratch with generative tools and apparently working well.
Velvet sundown is also present on other platforms, such as Deezer and Apple Music. And it was in Deezer which came the closest confirmation of a revelation: a discreet notinha in the albums says that “some tracks may have been created using artificial intelligence.”
The rise of the band raises more serious discussions about the future of music. According to a recent study, music industry professionals may lose up to 25% of their income over the next four years because of AMA automation and use. THE Deezerfor example, has already stated that about 10% of the tracks he receives daily are generated by algorithms, about 10,000 songs a day.
While artists like Nick Cave and Paul McCartney warn about the dangers of indiscriminate use of AI in music, the Velvet sundown Perhaps it is just the latest symptom of a rapid transformation scenario. What remains is the question: Are we listening to art or just well organized data?
APPARENTLY THIS BAND HAS ONLY EXCAN FOR 2 WEEKS AND IT’S ALL AI. How Long Until You See Someone Wearing Their Merch Lol pic.twitter.com/5f7d3bq8rg
