Festival aims to honor the English Heavy Metal icons, but American singer simply stole the scene in a previous presentation
The festival Back to the beginning marks the farewells of two heavy music entities: the original formation of the Black Sabbath and specifically your vocalist, Ozzy Osbournewhich will also withdraw from the solo career. However, the event held at the Villa Park de Birmingham Stadium, England, also had a triumphant return.
Steven Tylerwho in 2023 had suffered a fracture in the larynx and the following year provoked the retirement of the Aerosmithheld his first major presentation as one of the guests of the party. He had already taken the stage twice in 2025 for the charitable events of his NGO Janie’s Fund, but at least in size and repercussion, nothing like the occasion in Birmingham.
Only “two songs and a half” were performed. First, there was a version of “The Train Kept-A-Rollin”classic Tiny Bradshaw blues rewritten by Yardbirds and Aerosmith himself. Then amended “Walk This Way”mega-hit of the Tyler group, and an excerpt from “Whole Lotta Love”timeless song of Led Zeppelin. The lineup of instrumentalists, listed below, varied.
“The Train Kept-A-Rollin” had:
- Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) – Vocal
- Ronnie Wood (Rolling Stones, Faces) – Guitar
- Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave) – Guitar
- Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme) – Guitar
- Andrew Watt (producer) – Guitar
- Rudy Sarzo (former Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake, Dio etc) – Bass
- Travis Barker (Blink -182) – Battery
“Walk This Way” (original from Aerosmith) and “Whole Lotta Love” had: they had:
- Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) – Vocal
- Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave) – Guitar
- Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme) – Guitar
- Andrew Watt (producer) – Guitar
- Rudy Sarzo (former Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake, Dio etc) – Bass
- Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) – Battery
What didn’t change was Tyler’s quality of performance. At the top of her 77 -year -old – most of them marked by chemical dependence – even though she was a long time away from the big stages, Aerosmith’s eternal frontman stole the scene and handed over an untouched performance.
His presence was so important that he was the only singer not to perform any songs from Black Sabbath or Ozzy Osbourne. All the others honored the owners of the party. Steven didn’t have to do that: having him on stage created a party on a separate.
It’s hard not to imagine an Aerosmith’s return at least to complete your farewell tour, which had only three shows when Tyler crashed. If it doesn’t happen, that’s fine: Steven and his partners have already written their names in the history of music. But that would be cool, oh, it would be.
