Music Chip returns with new single and announces commemorative collection

With launch scheduled for September 5, Joy in Repetition brings together classics, rarities and an unreleased track, in honor of the band’s collective devotion

More than 20 years after emerging as a promise of the British Electropop, the Hot Chip She prepares to launch her first official collection. Entitled Joy in Repetitioncompilation hits the platforms on September 5 as a tribute to the artistic longevity of the group and, above all, to the pleasure of making music together repeatedly.

The career of the quintet formed by Alexis Taylor, Joe Goddard, Owen Clarke, Al Doyle and Felix Martin It is marked by a unique mixture of emotional sophistication and dance energy. From the first hits as “Over and Over” and “Boy From School” to the most expansive and experimental phases, the Hot Chip cultivated a faithful base and collaborated with names like David Byrne, JARVIS COCKER, Brian Eno and Robert Wyatt.

Described as a journey through dance tracks, home studios and festival stages, the collection runs all the nuances of the band’s discography, melancholy and contemplative moments like “Look at Where We Are” even electronic hymns “Ready for the Floor” and “I Feel Better”. The album also includes an unreleased track, “Devotion”.

The new song synthesizes the spirit of the collection and the philosophy of the group. “There is joy in doing something repeatedly”, explains Alexis Taylor.

Whether it’s a groove, a record or being in a band together for two decades, we still love to do that.

With art signed by Sir Peter Blake (The legendary artist behind the cover of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Bandof the Beatles), the image that represents Joy in Repetition It honors both the eccentric aesthetics and the band’s affective trajectory. The name of the album, by the way, is taken from one of the most iconic songs of Hot Chip, “Over and Over”and the cover of the album features a monkey painted with a tiny cymbalo dish, alluding to the lyrics of the song.

Without fully embracing the concept of “legacy”, members recognize that there is something precious in the possibility of revisiting and organizing memories. “You can’t get back to that sensation of the early days,” he says Owen Clarke. “But the records keep these memories. And it’s the shared experience that connects it all.”
