Music Leg exchanges armor dresses in fierce and passionate moisturizer

British band comes more sharp and emotional on album that mixes dancing riffs, confused love lyrics and a new aesthetics full of attitude

They emerged as two girls in long farmer dresses, braided hair with cute ribbons and sharp guitars that talked about failed dates, weird guys and the pleasure of mocking modern relations from the female perspective. A contemporary version of something that has always been denied to us: Indie made by women who do not allow license to laugh, scream, kick or finish before it begins. On the debut album, the Wet Leg It sounded like a relief: finally someone saying everything we always thought.

But now the thing has evolved. The ties were undone, the peasant skirts were in the past, and gave way to a slightly sporty version, MiU Miu Miu MiuS and Modern Looks, Pink Hair, discolored eyebrow and a fiercest stage presence than ever. Rhian Teasdale assumes the narrative control with an empowered, intense and theatrical posture, while Hester Chamber – Always more reserved, ”retreat elegantly, making room for tour musicians (and now official formation) shine like never before. Henry Holmes (battery), Ellis Durand (low) and Joshua Mobaraki (synthesizers and guitars) help shape a more cohesive, full -bodied and real bandwidth.

moisturizerthe second album, which arrives on Friday (11), not only keeps the riffs sticky and the sharp sarcasm, it adds unexpected emotional layers. The album talks about love, but in a way that doesn’t sound bread or naive. In “CPR”, Rhian scrub “I… I’m in love!” As if it were a relief request, and maybe it is really, would it be normal to feel it? Do I need help? Already in “Catch these Fists”she counteracts the culture of the modern male with a certain irony: he drinks red fruits, no chance! Something similar happens in “mangout”When she asks, “Do you think it’s pretty? Do you want to climb me? Because most want” and then it’s something in the line of “Give Out, Add from here”.

Track “Pillow Talk” It is one of the high points: vocals float over a distorted instrumental that refers to the Sonic Youthwith more complex arrangements and an almost sensual sense of tension. It is a song that always seems to be about to implode, and that’s where your beauty lives. Already “Pokemon” and “Davina McCall” They bring pop lightness and fun cultural references that still mark the band’s identity. The ballad “11:21 shows a more ethereal and vulnerable side, while “U and me at home” Closes the album with a bittersweet, almost nostalgic note: what happens after the joke works? The joke in the case was to start this band.

The cover of the album sums up this new moment well: caricatured, fierce, somewhat monstrous versions of the two vocalists, as if they themselves were mocking the meteoric ascension itself. Is it beautiful? Maybe not in the conventional way. But it is strong, provocative, modern and full of purpose.

moisturizer Exudes confidence. It is an elegant step ahead, without losing the bitterness of the debut. A record that dances between sarcasm and sincerity, desire and anger, firmly and a lot of attitude.
