Can musicytem of a down still release new album? Daron Malakian updates fans

Banda resumed concert schedule in more intense way than in recent years, but creative issue still seems to generate a deadlock

The current situation of system of a Down It is, at the very least, confused. With regard to shows, the band will have their most productive year in 2025 in at least a decade: they recently ended a tour of South America and in September they will get excited by North America again. At the same time, they have not released an album since Hypnotize2005 – Only two songs came out in 2020, “Protect the Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz”in a charity action.

If the group is performing more live performances, it would be natural to wait for unpublished songs, right? According to Daron Malakian, Not quite.

The guitarist, who prepares the release of a new album of his other band, Scars on Broadwayrecognizes that it is unlikely a meeting of SOAD also in studio. In an interview with Talk Is Jericho (via Blabberouth), he initially stated:

“We could make an album and it could even be good. I don’t know. If you hear these five records we have, if you hear the first album (1998) and then Toxicity (2001), there is a difference between them. There was evolution. I didn’t always like this gap [criativo]but that’s what it is. Each band has a different story. There was a time when I was a little more upset about it. Now I accept. ”

Daron Malakian, from System of a Down, in 2018

Malakian – who, in fact, over the years expressed his discontent with System’s creative conflicts – lamented that the group did not have The chance to continue its evolution in artistic terms. This, he said, was the biggest cause of his annoyance.

“I think we were able to [evoluir criativamente]. Some bands do the same album repeatedly, but we wouldn’t have been this band. We kept our sound, but this sound would have gone to different places. It’s my only regret: we didn’t have a chance to do this. If you decide to make an album 20 or 25 years later, where do you get the idea? ”

The popularity of System of a Down

Despite this, the System of a Down remains very popular. And Daron Malakian not only demonstrates gratitude, he also cites South America himself as an example.

“What is crazy to me is that people still care. We just arrived from South America and We crowded all the football stadiums there. I don’t know if you saw any filming of it, but it was crazy. I do this for a while and I had never experienced anything like it before. And we are about to do shows on the east coast [dos Estados Unidos]and the band has been playing in stadiums, and we haven’t released a record for over 20 years. ”

Why is there so much interest around SOAD? The guitarist reflects:

“I think part of this is due to the fact that Terms stopped at a peak. People wondered whether or not we would play. Then, when we play, they think, ‘Oh, this may be the last time they will play.’ None of this was done on purpose. It’s the natural way. Also, I also think the songs are important. The songs lived with people And in some cases they became part of the essence of their lives. So many years have passed, but I do not see fifty in the public. I see people aged 18, 25, young people who were probably born until after the launch of Mezmerize and Hypnotize (2005). It’s new to them. ”
