In honor of Caetano Veloso’s 80th birthday, Ecad made a survey of the artist’s most played and recorded songs
Caetano Veloso is one of the important icons of Brazilian Popular Music (MPB) and has hits that reflect the grandeur of the discography of decades of an impeccable musical trajectory.
This Sunday, August 7th, the singer, songwriter, musician, producer, arranger and writer from Bahia celebrates his 80th birthday. Over the course of your career, Caetano it has remained an undisputed reference for the genre and for several artists.

To commemorate the date, the Ecad (Escritório Central de Arrecadação e Distribuição), holder of one of the largest databases on music in Latin America, shared the 20 most played songs from Caetano Veloso in Brazil, based on the number of reproductions on radio, TV and internet over the last ten years.
For the study, the 631 songs and 1,953 of Caetano registered in Ecad were analyzed. The Bahian track most covered by other artists was “Baby,” which has versions recorded with The mutants and Gal Costa.
“Sampa”from the album Much – Inside the Blue Star, is the most listened to song by the Bahian musician in Brazil. The song is one of the most emblematic of the 20th century, which promoted ruptures in Brazilian composition, freeing it from the cult vocabulary and exaggerated romanticism.
