The first season of “Casa PMB” debuts on Youtube on July 20 and brings together names like Mariene de Castro, Lazzo Matumbi, Rachel Reis, Hiran and Melly
THE Brazilian Music Award (PMB) debuts a new phase of celebration of national culture with the launch of the documentary series PMB. The production features musical meetings that unite different generations of the Brazilian scene, focusing on the connections between veteran artists and new names that are redesigned the country’s sound map. The first season is dedicated to Bahia, and will have three episodes available on Sundays on the PMB On Youtube, between July 20 and August 3, always at 20h.
Recorded in Salvador, the Bahian season is directed by MARCIO DEBELLIAN and promotes powerful encounters between renowned names, such as Lazzo Matumbi, Mariene de Castro and Ju Moraesand representatives of the new generation as Rachel Reis, Hiran, Sued Nunes, Melly and Yan Cloud. More than performances, the series focuses on the exchange of experiences between artists who carry ancestry and innovation in the same measure.
“This song from Bahia comes from the inside out. It’s soul, it’s identity,” he says Zé Maurício Machlinecreator of PMBbehind the scenes of the first episode. He also highlights how important the role of Hiran when presenting Melly to production. “They are artists on different but equally intense beaches,” he says.
The debut episode also brings Lazzo Matumbi reflecting on the generosity between Bahian musicians. “Every Bahian is an ambassador to another Bahian. When he goes to one place, he pulls the other together. I love to show this new guys, it’s an honor,” he says.
In addition to conversations and aesthetic exchanges, the series brings live performances in Jam Session format, with exciting interpretations. Mariene sample “Nanã Point”from ROQUE FERREIRA; Lazz it presents “Ebony Goddess”; Rachel Reis releases the voice in “20h”; Sued Nunes sings “Love that Benze ”; and Hiran and Melly divide the vocals into “Ceder”track composed in partnership. Yan Cloud also marks presence with “Girl from Salvador”.
Moments of backstage also reveal the life stories behind art. Mariene de Castro It recalls the early beginning of the career and the family resistance by following a path focused on drums and samba de roda. “They said it didn’t sell it, that I didn’t play on the radio. I said, ‘So that’s what I’m going to sing,’” he says, reaffirming his commitment to his roots.
PMB It is born as a series: it is a project of circulation of ideas, affections and voices that reflect the richness of Brazilian music. With Bahia as a starting point, the PMB Already aims at other regions of the country to continue celebrating Brazil’s sound diversity in all its expressions.
