Music that you should not hear metal on your cell phone, according to Sodom leader

Bassist and vocalist Tom Angelripper cites guitar recording process to explain that he doesn’t like the sound reproduced via smartphones

Tom Angelrippervocalist, bassist and only original member of the Sodomis an old -fashioned headbanger, fanatic for Motörhead and Venom. And, above all, idealistic when it comes to dedicating your precious time to hear the albums of your favorite bands.

Regarding the modus operandi of this daily experience, Angelripper revealed in a recent interview with the site Blabberouth (via Metal injection) that does not listen to metal on the cell phone. And it doesn’t even recommend that someone listen.

The Sodom leader said:

“Most people hear music on the smartphone. You need to compress it to be able to listen to the guitars on the smartphone. I don’t hear on my cell phone. I have my high fidelity amplifier at home. When I hear music, I want to have the best sound possible.”

By explaining his point of view, Angelripper mentioned that, in general, guitar recordings are made thought of separate speakers, respecting a certain physical distance between them. According to him, it is something that loses meaning when the music is compressed to reproduce via streaming files in low quality headphones, compromising the space nuance idealized in the studio.

“The problem is that, in the end, everything is digital. If you record on a CD or make an album mastering, the sound engineer says: ‘In the end, we have to compress the entire file.’ Before we mastered the songs, the guitars were positioned left and right, far from the battery. You get a totally large production.”

Tom Angelrriper also questions, in this same talk with the journalist David E. Gehlkethe plasticized battery sound obtained by some bands. According to him, the exaggerated use of triggers and pre-recorded samples in the bubbles and box has been increasingly recurrent, which leaves the artificial sound.
