Guitarist explains motivation behind the return of the American band of New Metal, which returned in 2024 with new album and vocalist Emily Armstrong
Just under a year ago, the Linkin Park announced his official return, with the release of a new album, tour and the vocalist Emily Armstrong occupying the post of Chester Benningtondeceased in 2017.
The return of one of New Metal’s most popular bands generated great expectation, but also a strong question. Why move on without the original singer, one of the group’s pillars?
To this day, the subject still yields comments from Mike Shinodaalso singer and multi-instrumentalist of the American band. In a recent interview with the podcast BROKEN RECORD (via Blabberouth), he once again approached the theme and attributed the meeting of the Linkin Park to the desire to continue to challenge itself as a musician.

Shinoda explained, citing that I wouldn’t want the band’s final chapter to be Chester’s death:
“I think one of the things that really propelled us was the idea that if we had simply stopped and said, ‘Okay, it was a good phase,’ and given up, this would be a bad way for the band to finish or stop making new music. This is a horrible story. No one wants to read this book. And instead, he can say, ‘And then the guys have rebuked and get up, I want to read. The most difficult thing to do and the most intimidating, the most challenging one, which could go wrong, honestly.
Despite mourning the death of the original singer and having had to go through a moment of mourning, Shinoda reveals that the band has always been intended to resume activities.

According to the musician, it was not necessary to do therapy together or something. According to him, the members are all “emotionally intelligent” and knew how to face the situation with maturity.
Shinoda argues:
“I don’t know if we have a problem with authority or something, but that kind of thing (therapy), we bump into it and didn’t work well for us because we just feel that the person, if there is a mediator, doesn’t know us. Because they don’t know us. We love the band. If I’m doing something that makes her uncomfortable or upset, so I’m hurting. that can self -regulate to some extent. “

He also stressed the importance of having a woman as a vocalist and minimized the criticism of fan who wrinkled her nose when she saw Emily Armstrong instead of Chester:
“This person will be replaced by a 15 -year -old girl who says, ‘I’ve never enjoyed loud and heavy music before, but I want to learn to play guitar now.’ And I love it.”
Emily Armstrong, 39, who grew up as a fan of the band, was announced at the post of vocalist of Linkin Park in September 2024.
She premiered in Flutter (2024), a disc that marked the return of Linkin Park. It was the band’s first studio album since One More Light (2017).
