VMAs 2022: Nicki Minaj to be awarded Video Vanguard Award

Nicki Minaj is also confirmed as one of the main attractions on the main stage

Nicki Minaj will receive the prize Michael Jackson Video Vanguard from MTV and will perform for the first time since 2018 on 2022 VMAs. The rapper joins anita, J Balvin, Marshmello x Khalid and panic! at the Disco in the schedule of performances for the 2022 VMAs.

The songwriter is a veteran of the awards. Minaj has already received 17 nominations for the VMAbeing a five-time winner, taking home the award for the first time in 2011, as best hip hop video with the hit “Super Bass”.

Nicki Minaj broke barriers for women in hip-hop with her versatility and creative artistry and changed the music industry, cementing her status as a global superstar with her crossover appeal, genre-defying style.

The prize Michael Jackson Video Vanguard is awarded in recognition of the contributions of artists in the music world, especially in overproductions employed in music videos.

For two consecutive years, the VMA did not award anyone with the honor, also known as Lifetime Achievement Award. No one received the award from 2004 to 2005 and again between 2007 and 2010. The award has already been given to stars such as Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Kanye West, Rihanna, P!nk, Jennifer Lopez and Missy Elliott.

Since it was installed, the Vanguard Award has already honored 34 artists, most of them North American and British. Among all the referees, only nine also won the highest award of the ceremony, the category of Video of the Year.

Minaj made its debut in VMA in 2012, in an unprecedented feature with Alicia Keys in “Girl on Fire”. The last appearance of the singer on the stage of the awards it was in 2018, for a rap medley from his album queenwith the songs “Majesty”, “Ganga Burn”, “FEFE” and “Barbie Dreams”


2022 VMAs

This year’s edition of VMA will be broadcast live from the Prudential Center in New Jersey, United States, on august 28. Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar and Lil Nas X are the biggest nominees for the award, with seven nominations.

In addition to the artists, great singers such as doja cat, Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd.
