Made in partnership with Criolo, the singer’s unpublished music was produced by Nave Beatz and Rodrigo Gorky: ‘The album is very diverse, after all’

With the official conclusion of the era of the second studio album of his career, entitled Her Mind (which still won a deluxe version), Urias left his career on hold – but participated in songs by artists like Duchess, Jup of the neighborhood and Hodari As I prepared the next steps, without haste and calmly.

Now, on the night of Tuesday, 26, the Minas Gerais artist officially started with the news of the age of the third album, Frown (Launch on October 7; PRE-SAVE HERE), and released the single “God“(Listen to your preference platform here), which has a Cryle and production of Beatz and Rodrigo Gorky.

In an interview with Rolling Stone Brazil, Urias He assured that the new track, which shows a side that the audience and fans have not seen for a long time, is just a small piece of what is coming in the new work, which should have copyright compositions in Portuguese (Her Mind, for example, had many lyrics in English and Spanish). She also joked that she likes the vibe of changing her own personality, like the character of James McAvoy in Fragmented (2016).

The album is very diverse, in the end. […] So it’s a new one. In the end, it’s about me [risos].

The sound tone of “God“refers to rap and hip hop that Urias Invested in Fury (2022), the first album of his career, darker and angrier. In the letter, the singer and Cryle They talk about the religious erasure of African and indigenous peoples in Brazil, and how it affects their descendants to this day.

“The album is kind of focused on this part. It’s a very racial record, I would say,” she explained before I mention that “this colonization process was also internal to us. We were colonized internally, not just in the body.”

Also Rolling Stone Brazil, Cryle revealed that the invitation of Urias arrived through NaveI already knew. “The strength of music connects with the strength of the album and when they explained to me [o conceito]it was even an even greater gratitude for the invitation, “said the rapper.

On the other side, Urias He also feels the same gratitude, but from a fan who can interact and work with the idol closely: “It was very magical, he told me beautiful words the day we passed along, it was very special to me. I will take his words with me to the tomb. It was very good; he is a very lit guy.”

Urias and Criolo

You just entered this scowl era after great mystery on social networks and now with the first single, “God.” How is your preparation for your new phase?
I’m very anxious to launch things and the audience to see. It’s been a long time since I’m working on it. I decided to do it calmly, even and I decided not to hurry my processes. I am very happy to be starting all, of showing me again to the world in a different way, once again. I love this vibe! Change my personality, understand? Leave… what do you call that movie? Fragmented, such a vibe. So it’s a new one. In the end, it’s about me [risos].

Is your new version that you bring in this new age is premeditated? Or does it happen naturally?
I think it’s with the changes of life, really. You will add layers to your existence throughout your experiences, or how much you change your mind when you found something that actually now finds another. It is part of aging, passing to the next. Everyone has this to move and add things without realizing it, without doing it.

Why choose “God” as the song that presents this new age for your audience and fans?
I think it’s a great introduction because it is a song that literally introduces this new world, this new theme and this new proposal, but it leaves an open space for the news of the album, you know? It’s a song that the crowd that likes one side of mine, which I haven’t shown for a long time, that I haven’t launched songs in Portuguese for a long time, so it’s a song that brings back. But it’s just a small piece of the album, a small side. The album is very diverse, in the end.

I felt that she dialogues a lot with her first album, fury. How did you work with this sound that mixes rap and pop? Can we expect more of this in other trenching lanes?
All part of my whole process, not only in Portuguese, has a lot of rap and hip hop, which were things that I grew up listening, and then my brain kind of works a little, like rhymes and putting things in place. But there will always be in my work, it is the way I can find to compose.

This rap and hip hop thing will always be present, not only in this work, but in all the others it was present as the basis for starting a song, a song.

What was it like to work with Criolo? How did you build this track?
Working with him was completely surreal, because I was always a big fan, so I never imagined. It was very magical, he told me beautiful words the day we passed along, it was very special to me. I will take his words with me to the tomb. It went really well; He is a very bright guy.

To make the track, we were talking a little from a distance because of his agenda and mine, most of the time it was not a face -to -face meeting. Now he’s also going out with his 50 -year -old tour.

And then we were exchanging ideas about the track through producers, who are Gorky and Nave. And I kind of explained to him how was the structure of the album and the story I want to tell. And then he added his part perfectly, it was all amazing.

There was nothing to change, you know? It was the way it was.

In addition, “God” is produced by Beatz and Rodrigo Gorky. They are producers who do not work with the same type of sound. What was it like to have this duality, say, in the studio?
When we started producing, Gorky was kind of introducing the ship in productions. Gorky really wanted the ship to participate. They had already woken up things between them as producers and preferences and ways to produce. I can’t talk for them, but they seemed to be pretty free to do and throw production to each other – interference and everything. It is a job that everyone is proud to have done.

Much of music talks about the erasure of the African religion in Brazil that has been happening since the colonization of the country. What motivated you to talk about this?
The album is kind of focused on this part. It’s a very racial disk, I would say. And the topic of music introduces this weight on the album of the influence of colonization in our stories, [de] Brazilian black people, in the end. The song “God” talks about colonization and evangelization to take away the gods from black and indigenous people. They took our history, our names. This process of colonization was also internal for us. We were colonized internally, not only in the body. I felt that I had to talk about it, there’s no reason. [A canção] It complements a lot that I say on the album and how all this influences me personally. Not only to me, but as these things and parts of world history end up reflecting on us. We can’t get away from it.

And are you a religious person?
I am a religious person.

For you, exactly what or who is God?
I think ifá, in the end. I am from Candomblé, and our Ifá is what rules things, our destiny. My religion is a lot of connection with nature, there is no element “this is the great, almighty and merciful.” We understand that we are in nature, and then we have to communicate with these great entities, which are representations of nature. It is not a hierarchical religion. I think even … decolonial.

What can we expect from Urias in this new phase of its career?
Let’s communicate differently with the audience, letting go to satiate and instigate curiosities. So there will be things here for the album release. People will be able to get closer to the album with our marketing planning.

Marketing is important, right?
Marketing is important.
