“So. I created the lesbians of Lightyear“, he wrote Gunderson in a statement in Instagram. The screenwriter detailed that “an important character needed a partner, and it was so natural to write ‘she’ instead of ‘he’. Although this detail in the movie, I knew the representative effect it could have. Small line, great. I was very happy to keep it.”
“I am proud of it. Even infinity. Love is love,” he continued Gunderson. “I was one of the few screenwriters who worked on the project over the years, which is very common in scripts, of course. I had very little participation in the final script. But I was proud to see a couple happily queer (even for a few seconds) on the screen. I know they received a lot of criticism for including it, but things like this, because there is a beautiful love like this.”
