Guns N ‘Roses vocalist never hid admiration for the group in question, extolling him in old and more recent interviews

When it appeared, in the second half of the 1980s, the Guns n ‘Roses He drew attention for, among other reasons, a different sound from that period. The band formed at the time for Axl Rose (voice), Slash (solo guitar), Izzy Stradlin (rhythmic guitar), DUFF MCKAGAN (low) and Steven Adler (battery) exploited very characteristic influences of the 1970s, updating something that was considered “outdated” by the public.

One of these inspirations was the QueenBand quoted by Rose as his favorite at all times. Still in 1989, Axl told Rolling Stone USA that the group composed of Freddie Mercury (voice), Brian May (guitar), John Deacon (low) and Roger Taylor (battery) was responsible for changing your vision and opening your mind in musical terms.

He said:

“Whenever their latest album was released and brought all these other types of music, at first I just liked one song or another. But after a while listening, I opened my mind to so many different musical styles.”

Freddie Mercury, from Queen

Personally, the American singer even feels gratitude for the English idols. His career at the time of the interview was just beginning, but it was his intention to achieve something similar to what Queen offered, artistically speaking.

“I really appreciate them for this. It’s something I always wanted to achieve. It’s important to show people all forms of music, basically trying to give people a broader point of view.”

Axl Rose’s opinion about the Queen has not changed

It is curious to note that Axl Rose’s opinion on the Queen has not changed over time. In an interview of 2018 to Atlas Magazine, the singer praised the band of Freddie Mercury and company in the same way. Initially, he said:

“For me, it’s easy to choose the best – Queen is the best band and Freddie Mercury is the biggest frontman of all time. The band is the best because they embraced so many different styles.”

Then he added, also citing the way the group opened his mind:

“If I didn’t have Freddie Mercury’s lyrics to hold as a boy, I don’t know where I would be. They taught me about all forms of music … It opened my mind. I never had a bigger teacher in my life.”
