Feature film will feature 51-year-old mystery that mobilized fans from around the world to recover the historical Höfner of the Beatles

Bass Höfner 500/1 of Paul McCartneystolen in 1972 and recovered in 2024 after 51 years missing, became one of the most fascinating stories of rock. Now this saga will win the screens in a documentary.

THE Höfner 500/1 was the first bass of McCartneybought by £ 30 in 1961 in Hamburg, Germany. The instrument was used in the recordings of “Love Me Do”, “She Loves You” and “Twist and Shout”.

The bass was stolen in October 1972. For decades, it was believed that it had disappeared in 1969 during the sessions of “Get back/let it be”but later investigations corrected the date.

THE Lost Bass Projectlaunched in 2018, gained strength in 2023 with a systematic global search. The campaign led someone in southern England to check an old bass in the attic. The instrument was identified and returned to McCartney in September 2023.

“I think anything that is stolen, you want back, especially if you have sentimental value. It simply disappeared in the universe and let us think: where did it go?” Paul.

During the investigations, it was found that the thief sold the bass to Ronald Guestowner of a pub. The instrument has gone through several hands over five decades before being forgotten in the attic.

The bass has been found complete with original case, but needs repairs to be tocable again. THE Höfner Authentuated the instrument officially.

TheLostbass.com mobilized global network of fans, collectors and researchers, demonstrating how the passion for Beatles transcends generations.

The story will be told in the documentary THE BEATLE AND THE BASSdirected by Arthur Cary. The film will include exclusive interviews with McCartneyyour brother Mike, Klaus Voormann (Friend who witnessed the birth of Beatles), Elvis Costello, journalists and fans who led the recovery.

Arthur Cary directed Surviving 9/11 and The Last Survivors. The documentary has no release date yet, but promises to reveal unpublished details about one of the greatest search for musical instruments in rock history.
