Tribute featured participation from Yungblud, Nuno Bettencourt, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, but has generated some controversy on social networks
As reported, Dan Hawkins did not like the tribute made to Ozzy Osbourne During the 2025 edition of MTV Video Music Awards (VMA), last Sunday, 7. Now, the complaint of the guitarist of The Darkness – English band notoria for the hit “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” – Won body with the support of his brother, the singer Justin Hawkins.
For the tribute, the event organizers called the 28 -year -old singer Yungbludthe guitarist Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme) and the duo Steven Tyler and Joe Perryboth from Aerosmith. The first two executed “Crazy Train” and “Changes” And then, “Mama I’m Coming Home” next to Tyler and Perry.
In his unpaid commentary on performance, Dan had characterized the situation as “a M#RDA.” Through Instagram, he shared a video that also shows reactions of pop artists in the audience – how Ariana Grande – and stated:
“Look at a bunch of assholes. Another nail in the rock ‘n’ roll casket. Cynic, nauseating and, more importantly, a m#rda. It gives me disgusted to see how people take advantage of this m#rda to boost their careers.
As expected, the manifestation divided opinions in the midst of the public. However, Justin commented on agreeing with his brother. The singer, who also has a Youtube podcast, said on video that their discomfort is about Yungblud – for them, an artist who is forcing the bar to prove himself as “heir to Ozzy.”
“One of the things that annoy musicians of a certain age is to see Ozzy invent Heavy Metal, then become a name known with the television series [The Osbournes] And your decades of brilliance… Then you think, ‘What the hell are all these decades of amazing legacy have to do with Yungblud?’ It’s the fact that Yungblud seems to have positioned itself as a natural heir to Ozzy’s legacy, having nothing to do with the really important things. ”
Justin even intended a series of praise for Nuno Bettencourt. In the midst of this, however, he again criticized the 28 -year -old singer:
“All this posture is a mixture of Jim Morrison with the guy Stone Temple Pilots [Scott Weiland] With everyone who has had leather pants. It is a student thing about School of Rockhe knows? It is the most recent of a long lineage of – I’m sorry – impostors. For seven minutes, the world is looking at rock and that’s what we gave them. It’s as if you have only watched a movie about rock and metal. That’s what a stripper would do. It doesn’t sound authentic. It’s rock’n’roll, but not as we know it. ”
Finally, The Darkness’s frontman even said that Yungblud represents a kind of “Disney version” of Rock and Roll myth.
“There is a kind of Disney varnish on top, as if it were rock’n’roll seen through some kind of Instagram filter. This is what makes it annoying for people who made posts disdaining. DAVID HASSELHOFFwhich is one of the giants, and I’m not insulting, but it’s like a television personality doing rock’n’roll. ”
