Singer, songwriter and writer from São Paulo was born on the last day of the year, but “changed” her date; The new one was transformed on Rita Lee’s Day

“One day I decided to change… the date of my birthday ”. More than a hypothetical verse, this is a phrase that could really be said by Rita Lee. The late singer, songwriter and writer sang, in her songs, only part of her, in “Now you just miss you”but ended up putting into practice the other half.

The paulistana was born on December 31 and, therefore, for almost all life divided the celebration with the parties of New Year. But that changed by 2020, as Rita announced to the program Fantasticfrom the Rede Globo.

The national rock star was in quarantine because of the Covid-19 pandemic and decided to change the birthday. Chose May 22.

She said (via Gshow):

“I never had a party of mine. It’s always ‘today the party is yours, today the party is ours, it’s who you want.’ No, a party just for me!”

Rita Lee died on May 8, 2023, very close, according to the new date, to turn 76.

The New Anniversary

The date is not random. Was chosen by Rita Lee for being the day of Santa Rita de Cassia. Rita wrote about it in her book Another autobiography (2023):

“I decided that my birthday will be on May 22, Santa Rita de Cassia Day, a more normal date for those who have always suffered for never being able to call a birthday of yours.”

The change, according to Rita Lee, would only contemplate the calendar. She intended to dribble the zodiac. It’s just that the rock star didn’t want to stop being Capricorn: “I like to be caprica.”

Later, in 2024, the city of São Paulo honored the singer and turned May 22 into Rita Lee’s Day. Through a law (18,151, of July 2), the São Paulo City Council He made the tribute.
