Rock in Rio: Why is metal the last day to sell out?

Despite big names in the line-up, metal day was left aside in Rock in Rio sales

With the extraordinary sales of Rock in Rio 2022 opened last Tuesday, the 9th, a peculiar scenario was repeated: the metal day is the last to sell out. Meanwhile, days dedicated to pop de Justin bieber and Coldplay sold out all tickets within minutes again.

The situation is shocking especially when compared to the last edition of the festival in Brazil. In 2019, the first day to be unavailable was precisely that of metal, headed by the same band from 2022: Iron Maiden.

In addition to the British Scorpions, Grave and megadeth were cast in 2019, although the band from Dave Mustaine have cancelled. In this year, iron and Grave return to world stage accompanied by dream theater and Gojira – who entered after a new cancellation of the megadeth.

the shows of Sunset stage plays an important role in ticket selection. In 2019, Slayer and anthrax put on shows worthy of world stage – one of the last ones before the retirement of the group led by Kerry King. For 2022, Bullet for My Valentine must terminate secondary stage activities.

One of the essential factors for the lower demand, however, may be the repetition of attractions that are well known to the public. Despite the quarantine period, the main band of the night passed through the country recently, in 2019, and played outside the festival, in São Paulo and Porto Alegre. The 2022 presentation will mark the fifth passage of the Iron Maiden fur Rock in Rio.

Compared to days dedicated to other genres, there is little news like Dua Lipa and Post Malone, which debut at the festival. On social media, part of the audience complained about the repetition:

Gojira, which rose to prominence in the 2000s, was one of the lauded choices. The French band comes with the disco tour Fortitude (2021) and may point the way to renewing the line-up of the Rock in Rio.
